74. ADHD and "All Or Nothing" Thinking - Examples, Effects and How to Manage it.
Manage episode 362068730 series 3297986
This week we're talking about all or nothing thinking. People with ADHD may experience "all or nothing" thinking, also known as "black-and-white" thinking. This is a cognitive distortion where individuals tend to think in extreme terms, seeing situations as either entirely good or entirely bad, with no middle ground.
For example, a person with ADHD may think that if they can't complete a task perfectly, then it's not worth doing at all. Or they may view a bad day as a complete failure, ignoring any positive aspects that occurred.
This type of thinking can be harmful because it can lead to self-criticism, procrastination, and a lack of motivation. It can also make it difficult to see progress or make small improvements, which can be discouraging. We're going to discuss some examples of the times we've been stuck in the all or nothing thinking mindset and a few useful tips that may help you manage all or nothing thinking if you have ADHD!
Stick around till the end to hear what we adhd'd this week!
See you next week for another episode of shenanigans!
