How the power of conformity influences our decisions | Things to look out for, not use
Manage episode 303053976 series 2848424
In today's episode, I unpack a psychological study on the influence that conformity has on our choices and actions. The idea for this episode was inspired by an interesting question I received from a Patreon subscriber who didn't want to be persuaded into buying a timeshare.
Disclaimer: today's episode is meant to illuminate how outside entities may try to influence or manipulate us via the power of conformity. This is definitely something to consider when it comes to advertising messages around us, including those pertaining to divisive social issues!
My hope is that this study would help us to: 1) recognize when this type of influence is occurring; and 2) help us to stand firm with our beliefs!
Lastly, I came across this study while reading Jonah Berger's, "Invisible Influence". I'd highly recommend the book if you're interested in digging deeper on this topic on your own!
Enjoy!
