Carl's journey into the world of backpacking began with his studies in Wilderness Leadership and Experiential Education at Brevard College in North Carolina. After spending several years working at a camp in Leavenworth, Washington, Carl embarked on his first thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in April 2018, completing it by August of the same year.

Inspired by his experiences on the trail, Carl tackled the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019, further solidifying his passion for long-distance hiking. Now, he's set his sights on an even greater challenge: the Calendar Year Triple Crown and beyond in 2022. When he's not on the trail, Carl manages a local outdoors store in Birmingham, Alabama.
