Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Laura Moore-Shay, a full time project manager in engineering. She is also a prep & lifestyle coach, homeowner, and pug mom. She also is the host of the podcast Bikini Things! She first competed in 2017 and turned Pro in 2020 at NPC USAs.

Laura speaks in depth about her road to Pro and highs and lows. Being 6 feet tall, Laura has to be careful not looking too thin when she diets down for a show. She decided to start working with Kim Odo and take a long off season to put on more muscle. Laura tells us how she knew she wanted to be a Pro even before she started competing! She kept it to herself until she thought she thought the goal was in her reach.

We hear about how Laura plans her improvement seasons and what that means in regards to “old school” bulking. Because of her height and natural body type, it’s harder for her to keep on weight. She firmly believes you have to be happy with your body regardless of the stage you’re in. She has learned to appreciate her offseason body as much as her prep body.

In her work as a prep and lifestyle coach, she makes it a priority to foster healthy food relationships. She also believes in being honest with her clients. She does not like extreme cardio or extreme low calorie diets for her prep clients and would rather push a show date than be too extreme. She likes to shift clients immediately into a reverse diet post-show to allow for more flexibility and healthy maintenance of hormones.

“If you can manage your time, you can do whatever you want.”
