SERMON NOTES:
- “We are now called upon to exercise one of the privileges and duties which go with liberty, let no man be neglectful of it. Every God fearing man should give his vote with as much devotion as he prays.” Charles Spurgeon
- Well intended, yet misguided Christian thinking
- “I’m a citizen of heaven, not of this world.”
- Philippians 3:20
- “I’m primarily and eternally a citizen of heaven and I’ve been given dominion and responsibility from God while I’m on earth.”
- “I’m just going to love God and love people and not get involved in this.”
- “I serve God and serve people when I’m engaged in the well being of my nation and community.”
- Jeremiah 29:7 ESV
- “I’m not getting involved because all the options are flawed.”
- Matthew 5:13
- God has always used flawed people in anything He has done. We are looking for someone who will most slow the decay.
- “I’m voting based on the persona / personality of a candidate.”
- People come and go. Policies last and share the world we live in.
- Policies > Person
- You are casting a vote, not sending a valentine :)
- “I don’t want to push my beliefs/morals on others.”
- All legislation is an enforcement of morality. It’s just a matter of whose morality.
- When Godly people don’t lead, godless people do.
- Matthew 5:15-16
- “The Candle” Charles Spurgeon April 24, 1881
