Have you seen yourself or anyone you cared about get into a negative emotional spiral?
I first noticed this dynamic twenty some years ago when I was a manufacturer’s rep traveling my first territory.
A really talented salesperson had been blindsided by her husband’s decision to end the relationship. They had two children, one biological and one of his relative’s children they had take in as a baby. Both were in her care.
She felt extremely vulnerable thinking about what would happen to her and her children if he decided to be difficult. Mind you, he had not done or even threatened to do any of these things. To my knowledge he never did.
But the thought made her physically ill and unable to sell - making her real life situation more difficult.
Focus on a single negative thought led to her downward spiral. However, focus on a single positive thought can lead to an upward one.
Focus on the light.
