Guest: Duane Rollins
About this episode:
We all need support and guidance in our personal and professional lives. But how do you build a network of people who will lift you up when you need it? How do you know if your current situation calls for a coach, mentor, or a sponsor?
In this week’s episode, I had the opportunity to speak with Duane Rollins on the importance of having a team of coaches, mentors, and sponsors. Duane is a designer, educator, and non-profit leader. He currently works as the Director of Product Management at Capital One. Part of his role is determining how the company can better leverage their human capital to support entrepreneurial communities. Duane is the co-founder of the Washington Leadership Academy, a public charter high school in Washington DC. He helped craft the four-year computer science curriculum for the charter through STEMLY, a nonprofit he helped co-found with his brother and friend from college. Washington Leadership Academy was recognized for its innovative model by receiving the $10 million XQ Super School Prize in 2016. Duane holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters of Science degree in Industrial Design from Georgia Tech.
