Water damage can be one of the most devastating events to happen to you and your house or business, but it doesn't have to be. You can keep it from turning into a major problem, and the solution begins with a good water damage cleanup restoration service. In today’s podcast episode we will cover an extensive water damage cleanup checklist including different aspects of the water damage cleanup process.
Water Damage Cleanup Checklist
Once you've discovered your home is flooded, you must begin cleaning. Here's a handy checklist for cleaning up a water-damaged property. Follow it to the letter, and you'll be well on your way to restoring your home! After you've completed the checklist, don't forget to contact your insurance company. You'll also need to provide a report to the insurance company for coverage.
Cleaning up a flooded home

While floodwaters are often terrifying, they don't have to be. Flood waters carry all sorts of gross stuff that would normally be buried in storm drains, ditches, and sewer lines. This water may leave behind mud and other potentially toxic materials, making cleanup a complex task. Floodwaters can also be unhealthy for humans and pets, so people with compromised immune systems may want to stay away from flooded homes. The sewage in storm runoff and mold in the water can also make you sick.
Before you start cleaning up your flooded home, make sure that you wear protective gear. First, make sure to wear rubber gloves and long-sleeved shirts. Don't touch your eyes or face with disinfectants. Make sure to read and follow all safety instructions on the label. In addition, you should also make sure that you follow the instructions on the labels of any chemicals you're using. After the cleanup, call your insurance company to make sure your home is covered.
After removing water, flood victims can begin cleaning. First, they should remove all food, medicine, and soaked materials from the floor. They should also wash all flatware and dishes and sanitize them. They should also discard anything that is soaked in water, such as mattresses, carpeting, or stuffed toys. Hard surfaces should be cleaned with hot water. You might need to replace the flooring, drywall, or insulation if there are soaked areas. Depending on the extent of water damage, you may have to move furniture that is damaged.
After a flood, some standing water may remain in your home. Because of the increased humidity, mold can develop in as little as 24 to 48 hours. To prevent mold from developing, you need to remove all wet items from the house and use portable fans to air dry the affected areas. Additionally, you may want to invest in a dehumidifier to remove excess moisture from the air. This will also keep mold spores at bay.
Cleaning up a flooded house
You need to take the necessary steps to clean up a flooded house quickly and thoroughly. Cleaning flood damage involves removing contaminated water, debris, and odors from the affected area, and disinfecting affected areas. A disinfectant containing chlorine or hydrogen peroxide can kill mold and bacteria spores. It's best to use an effective sanitizing solution and air dry all surfaces thoroughly. You can also purchase cleaning supplies in bulk and use them to expedite the cleanup process.
To begin cleaning after a flood, you'll want to ensure that you wear the proper protective clothing and footwear. This includes long-sleeved clothing and jeans. Rubber-soled shoes are also a great idea. Gloves and HEPA-rated masks are also recommended for your protection. Regardless of the size of the flood, you'll want to wear protective clothing to protect yourself from potentially harmful contaminants. In addition to protecting your skin, you should inspect for signs of wildlife. If you do find them, call animal control immediately.
If you can, remove personal possessions from flooded areas. If possible, try to save priceless items. You can also wipe down soaked furniture and other things to limit the damage. Additionally, it is recommended to remove rugs and curtains and send them to be cleaned by a professional. Or you could just simply throw them in the dumpster. The amount of reconstruction required depends on the extent of the damage caused by the flood.
It is crucial to remove as much contaminated flood water as possible. Remember that flood waters carry several contaminants and spores. You may not be able to remove everything from the flood water. If the water is contaminated, it can affect the health of people with compromised immune systems. In addition to mold, cleaning chemicals and sewage present in the flood water may cause illness. If you're worried about these risks, you may want to contact an expert right away.
