Valluvar also has expressed his scholarly opinions on rhetoric. Valluvar says that since speech can result in advantages and disadvantages to the speaker, one should take great care in preparing one's speech. Many are afraid to address an audience. But, Valluvar believes that those who excel in knowledge should share their knowledge with others without fear. Despite their scholarly knowledge, if someone is incapable of sharing their ideas with an audience, they are like flowers without fragrance. Valluvar also says that when one speaks in a forum, one should know his audience and adjust the presentation's subject matter and style to suit the audience. Valluvar advises that one's speech should be such as to captivate the audience, and it should be such that those who could not be present to listen to the address should wish that they had heard the speech. Valluvar also emphasizes the need to be brief and clearly explain the ideas when speaking in a forum. Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. C.N. Annaduarai was an exemplary public speaker who had all the qualities of an outstanding orator.
