In this episode Winifred Ayinpogbilla Atiah is interviewed by the editor Aline Afanoukoé.
Winifred Ayinpogbilla Atiah, originally from Ghana, is a postdoctoral fellow in earth and environmental sciences, specializing in meteorology and atmospheric sciences. Her study focuses on ‘seasonal flood forecasting in Ghana using a new climate indicator approach’. Flooding has a negative impact on rain-fed agriculture in Ghana. Floods drown crops, which eventually die, resulting in significant crop losses. To address this, Winifred Ayinpogbilla Atiah is developing a model that will allow an early forecasting of natural disasters such as floods.
She is one of the 20 African women researchers rewarded for the excellence of their scientific work through the For Women in Science Young Talents Program for Sub-Saharan Africa, led by The Fondation L’Oréal and UNESCO.
