So much man-made traditions and ideas have been added, that the body of Christ, in most cases, struggles to operate with the freedom it was meant to have with Christ as its only functional head, not hampered by hierarchies and constraints, but instead, an "every member functioning/open participatory meetings" type of gathering. Foundational to understanding what has gone wrong is the book by Frank Viola and George Barna, Pagan Christianity (https://paganchristianity.org/) and Frank's follow-up books on organic church (https://www.frankviola.org/2010/01/11/what-is-an-organic-church-a-plea-for-clarity/)
