Timothy Keeley, CEO of Martin Specialty Coatings, has a rich background in the paint coatings industry, having spent over two decades working in corporate before transitioning to his current leadership role. Six years ago, he joined Martin Specialty Coatings, a third-generation, family-owned coatings and applicator firm that services the Arklatex region. The company specializes in coatings for healthcare facilities, military installations, and large-scale commercial projects, and is actively growing from a regional to a national player in the market.
Martin Specialty Coatings is distinguished by its ability to mobilize on any project, regardless of size or complexity, with resources readily available. From downtown skyscrapers to smaller retail facilities, Tim’s leadership ensures that the firm maintains a diverse portfolio of projects with over 150 running at any given time. The company’s long-term vision includes evolving its ownership structure to involve employees and continuously adapting to market changes while preserving its legacy of 77 years.
Keys to Success: “Just do what I say I'm going to do. You know what? I'd say this all the time. I
live off my calendar and so I make commitments based off of that and we accomplish
those commitments. That's just for me. That's the key for my success.”
Advice to Business Owners: “Plan, plan, plan. Because if you build a good plan, every time you encounter a situation or a roadblock or something that was unforeseen, you still have the basis of that plan to go back to, and then, you know, if you have to change something on that plan, at least you have a foundational document that says, ‘Hey, this is what we believe truly is the key to our success.’ So plan, plan, plan. It's painful to plan, but it is important that you're going to successfully accomplish whatever you set out for your business.”
