Today’s scripture highlights the critical role of private prayer, the foundation that fuels all other forms of piety. The fire on the altar of private prayer is the source from which the sanctuary and family altars borrow their flames. This secret devotion is the essence and evidence of true religion, and it is vital to keep this fire burning brightly. Our times of prayer should be regular, frequent, and undisturbed. Effective prayer is powerful and necessary for many needs, including the Church, the ministry, our souls, our loved ones, our neighbors, and the global cause of God and truth.
