None of us would be here if it wasn't for nurses. One of the many privileges of living in New Zealand (and many other places in the western world) is a health system we can rely on. Yes it has flaws, but one of the main reasons it holds together is the skill and dedication of thousands of nurses whose commitment above the call of duty would leave the rest of us looking lazy to say the least. Lately the headlines regarding nurses have centred around talk of working conditions, pay raises and possible strike action. When something moves a group of people so dedicated to the care of others to consider striking, I knew I had to learn more. Danni Wilkinson is a registered nurse who graciously gave me an hour of her time to help me discover what nurses are fighting for.
