It's hard to imagine the humiliation of this scene where Jesus steps up from the table and wraps towel around his waist and begins to wash the disciples feet. There's just no modern contextual equivalent. It's quite literally the most scandalous and shocking thing Jesus could have done that night. In this sermon on John 13 we look at why Jesus humiliates himself to wash his disciples feet, and why it's so hard to follow this footwashing God.
