The love story between Heloise and Abelard is undoubtedly one of the most tragic and novelistic tales of the Middle Ages. Abelard, a renowned philosopher and theologian, was hired by Canon Fulbert to educate his niece, Heloise. However, there was more of an exchange of kisses than wise ideas, as Abelard openly admitted. Heloise became pregnant, and the couple fled from Canon's wrath. Unfortunately, their child passed away, and Heloise's uncle ordered thugs to castrate Abelard. Ultimately fate separated them, and both devoted themselves to religious life, though they continued to exchange letters that became a pinnacle of French literature. Their story inspired countless poets and authors to write tragic and romantic novels.
