How saying you're not good in photographs is a limited belief that stem from core beliefs which are our most deeply held assumptions about ourselves, the world, and others.
1/
Acknowledge that you have a false belief that you're telling yourself.
2/
Acknowledge that you're listening to this bully voice in your head and get ready to stand up and face it and access it honestly with another person's fresh unbiased eye.
Ask yourself
- Where is the evidence
- Have you had a professional shoot
- Where you able to be let go and be you
- Do you really believe people are looking at the photo and thinking you look awful
Tell someone about this belief.
3/
How could it look if I didn’t believe this about myself?
Paint a picture - some people journal - some just think about or talk about it
Let’s reframe it
Use positive affirmations to turn self-limiting beliefs into positive self beliefs.
Reframing I use in the podcast “I hate photos of myself” to “I am trying to love myself in photos” to “Actually I am pretty awesome in photos when I am being myself” to “I love myself in photos”
Take it slow and be patient with yourself.
4/
Start creating evidence to challenge the belief.
Confirmation bias is when we search for and find information that backs up our beliefs. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could make the information we are looking for positive.
If you believe you’re awful in photos and in front of the camera and that you never look good in photos, then you’ll be looking for evidence of that every time you look at a photo of yourself.
We want to change this… here is how you can.
Look at photos of you from 5 years ago - try to find 5 things that you love about yourself
The more you look and tell yourself things you like about yourself the more you like yourself
If you have a photo shoot - when you get the photos back it can be confronting
Try to look at the photos as if your looking at someone else - detach yourself and find good things about the photos - start with a couple of photos and start using them. Then revisit the photos after a week or month and do again and then again and again and I guarantee you the narrative will begin to change
