On this weeks episode, we discussing cussing, it's impact and influence on our kids... and our own hearts. Though we are no stranger to swearing, we do bring some convicting scripture to bear on how we are too speak and the sort of talk that is to come out of our mouths and the admonition to live self-controlled lives.

NOTES:

  • This Weeks Whiskey: Buffalo Trace Kentucky Bourbon
  • This Weeks Cigars: MyCigarPack.com
  • Show Notes:
    • Perhaps there is no such thing as "good words" or "bad words", as language serves the purpose of communicating and at times, strong language is appropriate for strong circumstances to express strong statements.
    • If I use swear when I hurt myself or something goes wrong, as my knee-jerk response... does that show a lack of self-control and immaturity?
    • Is it ok to swear in those rare circumstances, when communicating appropriately strong ideas?
    • Do we simply just live by, "Don't swear" and become legalistic about our use of language?
    • Ephesians 4:29 - "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up, according to the needs that it may benefit those who listen."
    • What is the condition of our heart when we are tempted to swear or do swear?
    • As Christian's, we are ambassadors of Christ. How do people know that we belong to God, especially if we are using "course language" that is no different than "the world's" / non-Christians.
    • There is no excuse for cussing at our kids... which I (Christian H.) am guilty of.
      • Cussing at or around my kids, is one method that we wrongly use to try and control our kids... instead of allowing God to be in control.
    • When it comes to swearing, there are a few things to consider:
      • The heart issue behind why we are swearing and how it affects and tears down others
      • When we cuss instinctively or out of anger, we are demonstrating a lack of self-control and demonstrating to our kids, this is how you deal with life when things don't go your way.
      • If we are willing to take matters into our own hands by cussing out of anger or to tear someone down, it's likely a "slippery slope" to not listening to the Holy Spirit in other areas of our life or allowing ourselves to not be self-controlled.
    • What does it mean to "listen to the Holy Spirit"?
    • If you want to be more receptive to the "still small voice" of God through the Holy Spirit... READ THE BIBLE DAILY.
