Yet this is not common knowledge, even in Poland. Throughout the second half of the twentieth century, peasant culture was mainly represented by large state-owned ensembles, which did not transmit the values and spirit of the village music. Meanwhile, outstanding musicians and singers in local communities were not enough appreciated as artists in their lifetime. Even today,hundreds of artists play and sing original village musicrooted in local village communities –throughout the Carpathians, Rzeszow, Cracow, Wielkopolska, Kujawy, Mazovia, Radom, Lubelskie, Podlasie to Kaszuby region. Our podcasts are created to give voice to the local cultural heroes and to tell you about: history of Polish folk music, including national and ethnic minorities; personal stories; the styles and types of traditional music; cultural contexts of music; the modern phenomenon of transmitting musical traditions from rural to urban; today's young followers of these traditions.
