Welcome to another iteration of the Monday Breakfast show, broadcasted from 3CR on the lands of the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation. The episode begins with two speeches from the Free Palestine rally on the 23rd of June: First up is Hijrah Ahmad of Anak Bangsa Merdeka "Children of Free Nations" Collective on the need for decolonisation, and the precedent set by Western powers in allowing Israel to commit its genocide of the Palestinian people. Hijrah spoke from the infamous truck used as a stage for all Free Palestine rallies in Naarm — this week it was parked at an intersection on Swanston Street along the rally route. Organisers were unable to park it at the State Library due to being blocked by police and other authorities. Following that we hear from Prue Stevenson, a Disability Activist, Artist and Change Agent on the steps of Vic Parliament. They spoke of intersectionality, friendship as resistance, and why the genocide in Palestine is a disability issue. After those speeches, we listen to a two-part segment from the Making Contact show from the 11th of June about US encampment and divestment from Israel. US students called for divestment in 70s and 80s from South African apartheid and it was successful. During the segment, the hosts discussed what the endowments are, how they function, how they are invested as well as looking at Yale's endowment model. The Making Contact show airs from 9 - 9:30AM on Tuesday mornings, or alternatively can be listened to online here. This Thursday the 27th of June Black Spark Cultural Centre will host a conversation between Marisa Holmes and Iain McIntyre about the Occupy Wall Street movement. Marisa Holmes is the author of Organizing Occupy Wall Street: This is Just Practice (2023), NY-based activist, organiser and filmmaker. Marisa is the director of All Day All Week: An Occupy Wall Street Story, which tells the story of the OWS movement by those who were there. To tell us more about the event and to reflect on the movement, Rob spoke with Marisa. View more info about the event here.Songs played: 'Gaza Is Calling' - Mustafa Al Nahr - IKHRAS'Native Tongue' - MO' JJU'you should do this for a living' - Ruby Gill
