Takeaways:
What to do with Fear
- Misplaced fear is not good for us. It has negative side effects on us.
- A bad response to fear is when we dwell (sorry) on things that are out of our control.
- Fear, when applied rightly, draws us to God.
- A paradox is something that seems to be logically contradictory.
- A healthy fear drives us to God, and a healthy fear helps us see God as he is.
- We fear what other people can do to us, or even what they think of us. The Bible calls this fear of man.
- The reason it is sinful is because by fearing people more than we fear God, we are making people more than they are and God less than He is.
God is Glorious
- He wants us and all of his creation to know who he is - Glorious.
I Don’t Have to Fear Others
- When we fear people more than we fear God, we are seeing them as more glorious than God.
Discussion Questions:
- Why do you think God will not share His glory with anyone/anything else? How do we give glory to things other than God?
- Why do you think God gave us the ability to feel fear?
- Do you struggle with people-pleasing? Who is the one person you most try to please?
- Do you spend a lot of time/energy worrying about what people think? What might change in your life if God was more glorious?
