'Drastic Move, Drastic Remedy': Judge Upholds Ruling for Special Elections

Cobb Superior Court Judge Kellie Hill has denied Cobb County's attempt to intervene in the "home rule" map case, upholding her order for special elections for the Cobb Board of Commissioners. Democratic majorities on the commission passed the map to keep Commissioner Jerica Richardson in District 2 after being redrawn by the GOP-led state legislature.

Resident Alicia Adams sued after being disqualified from running under the home rule map. Judge Hill's ruling sided with Adams, ordering new elections for Districts 2 and 4. The county’s intervention, citing election costs of up to $1.5 million, was rejected due to timeliness. Hill emphasized that the county must comply with election mandates. The county’s spokesperson had no comment, and the county’s legal team is preparing to fight Adams’ request for attorney fees.
