This week we discuss the Parable of the Wedding Banquet, which is the third and final parable with which Jesus confronts the Jewish religious leaders for their unwillingness to accept him and his message. This parable is very much influenced by Matthew’s view that the church is composed for both the good and the evil, who will be separated in the final judgment. It is a difficult text, and we discuss some of the problems it raises as well as strategies for preaching.
