The gifts of asset protection and estate planning: explaining wills, trusts and probate. All bets point to you having at least one asset tied up in probate
Manage episode 442852570 series 3584469
'I'm going to see my estate attorney later today' would likely come across as a very bougie thing to say to your next-door neighbor as you cross paths mowing the yard on a Saturday. Yes, 'estate planning' has an air to it of gated mansions, manicured lawns, and brick-paved driveways but the truth is, if you own any home and have some savings, you have an estate. And if you have others living in said home - children, family members and/or a spouse - you want to protect your assets and those you love, right? That's what this episode is all about. Your host, Andy Keeler, welcomes estate planning expert and attorney, Bill Root. Andy and Bill dive into subjects like wills and trusts and specifically, what they do and don't do. It often comes as a surprise that assets passing under a will guarantee the delays and expense associated with probate. Plus, there are legal considerations surrounding your health care to think about. Additionally, if you have minor children and have established guardianship with a loving family member, that's great. But what if Uncle Larry isn't so great with a checkbook? You can (and should) make provisions for that as well. No matter how big or small, your 'estate' is YOURS and certainly worth protecting.
