×On a hot, August day, heavily pregnant Savanna Greywind was in her family’s apartment in Fargo, North Dakota. Her neighbour, Brooke Crews, came down to ask Savanna to help her with a sewing project, which Savanna agreed to. Savanna followed her neighbour upstairs and entered her apartment, expecting to spend a few minutes helping before returning to her own apartment for a quiet afternoon. Savanna would never return home, and it would be a week before her body was found. When 17 year old Kathaleena Draper found out she was pregnant, she wasn’t sure what to do. She and the father were both young, and while he was supportive, her relationship with her mother was strained at the best of times. So when her Aunt Erin offered to care for her during the pregnancy, and adopt the baby once it was born, Kathleena thought she'd found a good solution As her pregnancy progressed, Kathaleena started having second thoughts about the adoption and wondered if she could raise the baby herself. She could get a part time job to support them, she thought she could make it work. When she raised this possibility with her aunt, Erin was enraged and told Kathaleena that she couldn’t stay there any longer and that she would take her home to her mother. Kathaleena never made it home and what transpired was described by a judge as the most brutal crime he had made a judgement on in his 14 years in the job. In 1996, Josefina Sonya Hernandez sat in a courtroom, during a murder trial, and testified. The victim, Peggy Tucker, was a sex worker who was found dead behind Josefina’s home, and Keith Zon Doolin had been arrested and charged with her murder, another murder and multiple attempted murders. She told the court everything she saw and heard the night of September 18th, 1995. She told the court that she watched TV, she went to bed around 11:30, and she struggled to sleep in the humid, Central California heat. She told the court that, just before midnight, she heard dogs barking and then, a few minutes later, a gun shot followed by a woman's scream. She didn’t think much of the event and didn’t call the police. She never dreamed that, a year later, she would wind up in court as a key witness in a serial killers murder trial. She also never dreamed that, five years later, she would be back in a courtroom testifying at another murder trial. But, this time, she was testifying in her own defence as she stood trial for the murder of Margarita Flores. On January 31, 1996, Carethia Curry ran some errands with her friend Felicia Scott. Carethia was nine months pregnant, and wanted to pick up the last items she needed for the baby. After shopping, Carethia and Felicia had some cake and discussed what they should have for dinner. They decided on pizza - Felicia would pick Carethia back up after Felicia picked her kids up from school. At around 5:00pm, Carethia got into Felicia’s car so they could go for pizza, but she never returned home. Later that evening, Felicia arrived at a hospital with a baby. July 23rd, 1987 was supposed to be an exciting day for Cindy Ray. She was nearly 38 weeks pregnant and, all going well, her obstetricans appointment that afternoon would be her last before giving birth. She went about her day, making her husband Sam’s lunch before he biked to work, and dropping her 2 year old son, Luke, at the babysitters before doing drop-offs to her Tupperware customers. Cindy was trying to get everything done before her 2:00pm appointment, and she made it just in time. After her appointment, she left the medical center and started walking towards her car, but she never made it. Her husband looked for her but Cindy was nowhere to be found. Hours later, a woman splashed with blood and holding a newborn arrived at the hospital claiming she gave birth in her car. Her story didn’t add up and when medical staff began to suspect something sinister had happened, they called the police. The first known fetal abduction happened on November 13, 1974 when Winfred Ransom invited her new friend, eight month pregnant Margaret Sweeney, over to her West Philadelphia home to have lunch. Margaret went to Winifred’s expecting a nice lunch - she never expected that’d be the last place she’d ever go.
