Manage episode 355130913 series 3447029
Serena Nangia (she/her) is a Body Activist, a long-time advocate for eating disorder recovery, and Marketing & Communications Manager for an eating disorder nonprofit called Project HEAL. She has spent close to a decade building expertise on the way body image, media, and eating disorders affect people’s daily lives, as well as how Fatphobia and weight stigma create issues of access and discrimination systemically and interpersonal.
Serena actively works to elevate the diverse voices of People of Color and Fat people. Serena’s inspiration comes from her sister, Ellen, who struggled with an eating disorder for over a decade and is now in long-term recovery.
Even though I identify as a fat person, I am fatphobic too! I have received all of the same messaging that you have and I believed that being fat is the worse thing a person could be. When I felt the call to work in this space, I knew I had a lot of internal work to do around unpacking my fatphobia (in fact, I still do)! One of the first things I did was sign up for the brilliant Serena Nangia's online course "How to be an Ally to Fat People" and in this episode I have invited Serena to share her expertise in this space with you!
Serena lives in Colarado Springs, Colarado.
