Jane Marie Prichard was a 28-year-old botany student at the University of Maryland, who was working hard to earn her Master’s degree. She was working on a thesis paper about the little-known hog peanut and how its leaves turned toward the sun. On September 20, 1986, Jane was conducting her experiments in Blackbird State Forest by 7 am. She had her equipment set up and was steadily making entries in her research. But at 10 am, her entries suddenly stopped. Jane Prichard’s murder has become one of Delaware’s most notorious cold cases, which has yet to be solved 37 years later.
