In Episode 7, Gillian and Tim are joined by former Justice of the Family Court of Australia, The Honourable Colin Forrest SC.
In this episode, we discuss domestic relocation and international relocation within the context of a Family Law matter. Furthermore, we discuss Hague Convention matters and Colin gives his hot tips for legal practitioners working in the Family Law jurisdiction.
The Honourable Colin Forrest SC
Colin graduated from the University of New South Wales in 1986 with degrees in Arts and Law. In 1987, Colin worked as the Legal Associate to Justice Michael Kirby, then President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal. Colin was admitted to the NSW Bar that same year. In 1988, Colin spent two years working as an employed solicitor and in 1990, Colin was called to the Queensland Bar where he established a practice specialising in family law and succession law.
In the 1990’s, Colin spent several years as a part-time member of the Commonwealth Social Security Appeals Tribunal. Colin was later appointed as a part-time member of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Tribunal and, when that Tribunal became part of the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Colin became a sessional member of QCAT.
In 2010, Colin was appointed Senior Counsel.
Between 2011 and 2021, Colin was a Judge in the trial division of the Family Court of Australia, based in the Brisbane Registry. In that time, Colin was the Case Management Judge of the Brisbane Registry and was a member of the Chief Justice’s Policy Advisory Committee and as the Family Court’s representative on the combined federal courts’ Children’s Committee. In his time at the court, Colin published over 500 written judgments and on occasion, sat with the Appeal Division on the Full Court of the Family Court of Australia.
