The arrival of Harvey Tanner, a wealthy, prejudiced landowner threatening foreclosure, heightens tensions. As Jalen and Elijah stand united against Tanner's intimidation, the story sets up themes of racial injustice, veterans' struggles, and the fight for dignity in a society that often denies it to them. The first act closes with the brothers preparing for an uphill battle to save their family's heritage.
