2 Peter 2:1 - 3

1. Explain the difference between an interpretation and false teaching
“work out your salvation with fear and trembling” Philippians 2:12
2. Examples of false teachings
“false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies” 2 Peter 2:1

• There are many ways to heaven.

“they have denied our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” Jude 4
“I am the Way” John 14:6

• We are saved by faith and works

“a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law.” Galatians 2:16
“It doesn’t matter whether we have been circumcised or not. What counts is whether we have been transformed into a new creation.” Galatians 6:15

• You can live however you want and still be a Christ-follower.

“saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives.” Jude 4
“I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds” Acts 26:20
3. Examine the teacher and the teaching
“there will also be false teachers among you” 2 Peter 2:1
“We are not ignorant of satan’s schemes” 2 Corinthians 2:11
“Don’t let anyone capture you with philosophies and empty deception that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world” Colossians 2:9
“saying that God’s marvelous grace allows us to live immoral lives.” Jude 4
“because of them the way of the truth will be maligned” 2 Peter 2:2
“there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies” 2 Peter 2:1
“in their greed they will exploit you with false words” 2 Peter 2:3
“especially those who indulge the flesh in its corrupt desires and despise authority.” 2 Peter 2:10
“Anyone who teaches something different is conceited” 1 Timothy 6:4
“Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions.” 1 Timothy 6:4
4. Equip yourself
"You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? Galatians 5:7
