When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Learn more at www.lbi.org/kollisch . Exile is a production of the Leo Baeck Institute , New York | Berlin and Antica Productions . It’s narrated by Mandy Patinkin. Executive Producers include Katrina Onstad, Stuart Coxe, and Bernie Blum. Senior Producer is Debbie Pacheco. Associate Producers are Hailey Choi and Emily Morantz. Research and translation by Isabella Kempf. Sound design and audio mix by Philip Wilson, with help from Cameron McIver. Theme music by Oliver Wickham. Voice acting by Natalia Bushnik. Special thanks to the Kollisch family for the use of Eva’s two memoirs, “Girl in Movement” and “The Ground Under My Feet”, the Sophia Smith Collection at Smith College and their “Voices of Feminism Oral History Project”, and Soundtrack New York.…

×In this episode, Ashley Basile, Availity Chief Product Officer of Clinical Solutions, discusses one of the most critical advancements shaping the future of healthcare: payer-to-payer data exchange. The healthcare industry stands at a pivotal moment as it works to address one of its most persistent challenges—seamless data sharing. On January 1, 2027, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will enforce the Payer-to-Payer Data Exchange Final Rule, requiring health plans to implement APIs for sharing critical clinical, claims, and authorization data when members transition between plans. This rule has the potential to revolutionize how data flows across the healthcare ecosystem, ensuring that patient information follows them, regardless of where they receive care. However, as Ashley explains, it’s not without its hurdles. In this episode, Ashley delves into the findings from Availity’s groundbreaking Payer-to-Payer Data Exchange Cohort Program. This initiative brings together leading health plans to identify and overcome the hidden challenges of payer-to-payer data exchange. We discuss strategic approaches to innovation and mental models for devising clear goals and outcomes among diverse stakeholders. Thoughts? Guest suggestions? Our guests are Amanda Clifton, Vice President, Technology Solutions, Automation and Core Workflow and Jeffrey Bostelman, Staff VP Interoperability, Clinical Strategy & Architecture, at Centene Corporation. In this episode, Amanda and Jeff explore the opportunities and challenges of payer-to-payer data exchange and price transparency regulations. On January 17, of this year, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized the Interoperability and Prior Authorization Final Rule, a significant step towards improving member data exchange and delivering holistic care experiences. With the January 1, 2027, mandatory enforcement date approaching, failure to take proactive steps could result in substantial penalties and connectivity delays. This underscores the urgent need for health plans to act swiftly and decisively to address the challenges and hurdles in establishing secure connections with other health plans. Price transparency is a series of national policies designed to create a patient-driven healthcare system by making health plans and hospitals in the U.S. more transparent, so patients can better understand what they will pay for goods and services. Consumerism is built on the tenet that patients have full access to cost and pricing information to make decisions about their health, and these new laws are likely just the start of a series of regulatory initiatives designed to mandate pricing transparency. Innovation and transformation are top priorities for growth-oriented healthcare organizations. But meaningful and sustainable transformation presents and extraordinary challenge. Departmental silos, complex bureaucracies, and organizational inertia often prevent good ideas from every showing up on a solutions roadmap. My guests Jesson Zafar and Dennis Kramer of Sentara Health Plans have spent the past couple of years thinking of little else than the lifecycle of solution development—from ideation to go-to-market and everything in between. Together, Jesson and Dennis have created a system for nurturing ideas from across the enterprise. We hope this enlightening conversation will give you some ideas on how to scale and implement your own Transformation Center. Jesson and Dennis discuss how they created Sentara’s Transformation Center, how it works in practice, and how they have engineered their process to ensure that good ideas, regardless of where they come from within the organization, are given a chance to reach their full potential.
