Budka finalised her research on a rarely practiced Japanese printmaking technique called Mokulito. She created her own printmaking technique naming it, Budkalito. With the exciting results of Budkalito, she was invited to give lectures and workshops around the world. The “skin in the game” exhibition from 11 November to 16 December in Hong Kong presents Ewa Budka’s lithography prints and paintings. Ewa Budka, New York-based, born and raised in Poland captures her own stories - emotions which, like a tattoo on her skin are visible on her abstract paintings. Budka explores the complexity of having an international career as an artist, art director, model, and recently also a mom, and all which goes with it, the bad and good times - heartbreaks, frustration, happiness, and love. The artist stated “Life is all about changes. 2020 had changed my life, it changed me in many ways. I realised I have many different needs, desires. What I have had learned when I became a Mother is that there are many different Women inside of me. My body has spoken to me in so many different ways that I had to stop, and carefuly check where are coming from all of the whispers. I saw a space-a potential to check and I found in there many different Ewa’s. A Mother, a Lover, an Independent strong fighter but also Ewa who wants to be taken care of. It took time to hear them all out, to direct who’s speaking when. They all can represent different personality archetypes of Greece Goddesses like Hera, Aphrodite, Anthena, Artemis. All powerful but so different. Finally my Women are all being respectful, friendly, gently living, to each other. It almost feels that they all had been at fight in the past decade, and now finally I see them all. Clearly without a doubt I wouldn’t be able to listen to any of them if not the 2020.” #artaapp #storiesbehindart #budkalito #lito #lithography #from #wood #mokulito #workonpaper #abstractart #art #artwork #contemporaryart #artist #artistsofinstagram #exhibition #skininthegame #comingsoon #womxnartists #woman #paper #print…
Nick Brandt's new project, "Inherit the Dust" is more relevant than ever before. Wildfires, tornadoes, and dangerous viruses are the top news of 2019 and 2020, and it won't change anytime soon. In a series of photographic panoramas shot in East Africa, celebrated photographer Nick Brandt records the impact of men in places where animals used to roam, but no longer do. Pollution and urban encroachment is the cause of ever decreasing habitat for the natural world and loss of biodiversity. It is time to talk about it, and, more importantly, it is time to do something about it now. Sarah Greene with Blue Lotus Gallery in Hong Kong, despite the coronavirus and the protests, chose to proceed with an exhibition INHERIT THE DUST by NICK BRANDT to reveal the tremendous danger hanging above Hong Kong. Please watch the video and share it with others if you also think it is important to do something about it now. I am exploring neon signs in Hong Kong with a modern artist using classic neon craft. Hong Kong neon signs have been a part of Hong Kong history, so I decided to explore how the traditional neon has changed from commercial use to a modern art medium. I had this great opportunity to chat with neon light maker - Karen Chan, who has the privilege of studying the traditional neon craft alongside one of the oldest neon masters. You will hear Karen's story about how she started working with neon lights and a detailed process of how to make a traditional neon with contemporary purpose - visual art. We will also chat about Karen's newest art project and neon art exhibition in Hong Kong alongside answering questions about the tools, cost, and challenges with making the neon lights. 1 #18 How to get inspiration for abstract art? In conversation with abstract artist, Roberta Boffo 50:21
Challenge, simplicity, and addiction to pain, that's just a few topics we chat about with Roberta Boffo, an Italian artist based in Hong Kong. Her works showcase symbiotic relations between her love for traditional Asian art mediums such as ink and calligraphy and the emotional, vibrant side of her Italian heritage. We talked about how to get inspiration and the recipe to succeed when starting a new project. The last 15 minutes of the show is a walk around Roberta's studio, where you can hear about her work and her advice on what to do when "you don't fit." Read more and see Roberta's work on her website, www.robertaboffo.com instagram.com/robertaboffoart facebook.com/robertaboffoart Arta Website: https://www.artaapp.com Arta Podcast: https://www.artaapp.com/podcast Arta Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVW8 Arta IG: @artaapps Arta FB: https://www.facebook.com/ArtaPodcast/ Chat with Natalia: natalia@artaapp.com Roberta newest show: "ALLURE" is a showcase of original contemporary ink art by Hong Kong-based Italian artist, Roberta Boffo in her studio gallery, Roberta's Art House / RAH Studio Gallery, Sai Kung. Roberta will be showcasing original pieces from older and her current collection, as well as limited edition prints. A mysteriously fascinating body of work that reflects the evolution of Roberta's style and her various inspirations. Hello Everyone! Hong Kong is a fantastic city, full of everything that you need to pursue your career. What about the dream of becoming an artist? Are there universities worth recommending? I decided to make a mini-series exploring the question "Where to study Arts in Hong Kong?". In this series, I’ve talked with students who are giving us the privilege to see universities by their eyes and tell us about their passion for arts. I had this great pleasure to start from interviewing Ira Almeda representing SCAD, Savannah College of Art and Design in Hong Kong. Ira is a third-year Painting, Bachelor of Fine Arts student at SCAD Hong Kong, and she has been exhibiting work since the age of 16. Also, Ira has been recently invited to take part in a group exhibition at Opera Gallery. Her artwork was on display alongside renowned artists such as Zao Wou-Ki and Feng Xiao-Min, along with their Western counterparts, Pierre Soulages and Hans Hartung. I talked with Ira about her recent group exhibition, studying at SCAD, and how important it is to find a mentor in the first stage of your career. Finally, we will also have a chance to see SCAD by Ira’s eyes, visit her classroom, and meet her beloved mentor! Please enjoy the episode, and as always, please don’t hesitate to leave me a comment, like this episode and subscribe to the channel if you want to hear more! Hello everyone! In this episode, I want to explore how by creating art, we can reach a state of deep relaxation and feel a boost of positive energy . A lot of artists have confirmed that creating art can be a deeply meditative process, but what about people who are not art experts? Is this possible? And if so, how to get there? Luckily I had the pleasure to meet Dolphin Yip, who is the founder of Art of Dove, a studio that explores art and meditation at the same time. Meditative Art Studio is a unique concept which works with various clients on improving their mental and physical state. Dolphin shared how her depression disappeared, hip dislocation self-healed, and her clients started to feel happy again. Finally, can you create art without using your eyes? Dolphin tells us about the meaning of her work as an artist. Stay tuned and please welcome to episode 12! Hello everyone! Today I want to explore how it is to create an abstract painting using a slice of fresh meat, literally, and how to be the fresh meat in the art industry metaphorically. I had a pleasure to chat about both with my guest - Michael Ho. Micheal graduated in fine arts from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2018. Within only a year he booked solo shows at Tobi Art Fair Tokyo, Art Central Hong Kong, and Tokyo International Art Fair with great success. He is currently represented by Gallery Shimamura and Tokyo International Gallery. I chat with Micheal how his roots and education influenced his work as a conceptual artist and about his transition from being a student and producing very academic art to a sustainable business. We also explored how to work in a studio, how to present yourself, and perhaps shift slightly to the commercial side of art to achieve a perfect balance between business and academic. Last but not least, Micheal's latest project has shown brilliant conceptual work and unique materials, such as raw steaks! How you can use meat prints in conceptual art? Stay with me! And without further delay, please enjoy episode 11! Hello dear listeners! In today's episode, I'm delighted to talk with Indian Jones of our time - James Prosek. We will explore how illustrations and paintings of nature contribute to preserve and inspire people to cherish wildlife. In recent months I've seen more and more art exhibitions related to nature, and today, I have the pleasure to chat with an artist who comes to art through his life-long love of nature. James is an American artist, famous for his detailed portrayal of natural creatures. His best-known work is Trout: An Illustrated History, published at the age of 19 when he was still studying English Literature at Yale. Gifted with multifaceted talents, James has been capturing biodiversity of the natural world, not only by paintings but also by writing and filmmaking. He has written for The New York Times and National Geographic Magazine and won a Peabody Award in 2003 for his documentary about traveling through England in the footsteps of Izaak Walton. We started our conversation from exploring James's past and his Indiana Jones-style trips across the entire world. We then explored his art techniques and unique materials he recently worked with. Last but not least, we talked about the long term problem with boundaries between our language and nature and why James is so passionate to change the way how we are classifying, collecting and naming natural creatures. Lastly, please forgive me for the background noise in the first 20 minutes of our discussion, we started our conversation at James's show opening and soon after it began to be very noisy, so we moved to one of the conference rooms which was much better for podcasting. Ps. If you are in Hong Kong between 6 July and 8 September 2019, you must see James's newest show "the Hidden Forests" the Asia Society. You can find more information about the exhibition on the show notes. James Prosek website: www.troutsite.com James IG: @jamesprosek Arta website: www.artaapp.com Arta IG: @artaapps HIDDEN FORESTS SHOW Show dates: 6 July - 8 August 2019 Address: Asia Society, 9 Justice Drive Admiralty Hong Kong Info: Asia Society Hong Kong Center presents Hidden Forests, a summer arts and culture project offering many events, programs and experiences for all ages. Focusing on local ecology, Hidden Forests celebrates Hong Kong’s trees and biodiversity and promotes the importance of caring for the environment. Inspired as a response to Hong Kong’s devastating loss of trees caused by the tropical cyclone Typhoon Mangkhut in September 2018, Hidden Forests includes an art exhibition, a music series, community workshops and nature tours that explore the significance of trees to our local environment, culture and history. The cross-disciplinary program brings together local artistic talent and expert ecologists to strengthen public awareness about forestry and biodiversity in Hong Kong.…
Hello, dear listeners! Welcome to episode 10! Today I'm very thrilled to feature the very talented artist - Andreas von Buddenbrock. Andreas is an expert in highly detailed ink drawing, and his expertise lies between hand-drawn illustrations, digital paintings, and animations. Originally from Sweden, he graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in Hong Kong in 2015 and has since worked on a broad spectrum of projects with many clients from Hong Kong, Australia, and the U.S. I had a fascinating conversation with Andreas about various topics related to illustrations and his art routines. We also touch-base on Andreas’s backstage stories and his ultimate goal as an artist. Lastly, we discussed the importance of engaging with an audience by sharing stories behind art and how Andreas approached this challenge. On top of our conversation, if you are in Hong Kong, I would like to encourage you to stop by Andreas's first solo exhibition where you can see his latest work! The show will begin on the 10th of July and keep going until September 2019. The exhibition will take place at the very trendy speakeasy bar - Brickhouse in central, Hong Kong. Today, Andreas spends his time working as a freelance illustrator in Hong Kong.
