Henri Galvin Newton is a Coromandel native born in 1990. From the farm life between Matarangi and Whangapoua to navigating the highs and lows of city living, Henri's journey is one of resilience and unexpected turns.

Leaving home at 16, he tried his hand at various professions, from construction to kitchen work and even fishing at sea. University in Hamilton, which he hated, was a brief stint before life in Queenstown brought surprising twists, including selling insurance and rapping on stage with a rock band.

Amid life's highs, tragedy struck at 21 with the loss of his mother to lung cancer. Henri's path led him to hitchhike back to Whitianga, where a moment of realization sparked a return to work at 22. His journey continued through construction work in Christchurch, the birth of two children, and settling in Auckland.

COVID-19 prompted a significant change. After purchasing what now is the top restaurant, Base, Henri and his partner at the time found themselves back in Whitianga, reconnecting with their roots. Beyond his diverse interests in gaming, comics, and more, Henri opens up about his battles with clinical anxiety, panic disorder, and visual snow syndrome.
