In this episode… we continue with the tender and complex topic of death. Sarah Lagergren (laity) is in conversation with us about what it is like to be a young adult, pediatric cardiac advanced practice registered nurse, a mom, and spouse, how she holds the tension of healing and heartbreak, how she copes with letting go and grieving and allowing tears and laughter to be part of the journey.

If this is a topic that is too tender for you, we encourage you first and foremost to care for your well-being. Please skip this episode and the next one on the podcast and know that it is okay, please tune into the ones that follow. Your health and wholeness are the most important things.

About the Hosts

Clare Stern-Burbano (she/her) is a member of the laity and currently a college, youth, and children’s minister at a parish in Kansas City, MO and third-year seminarian at Univ. of Dubuque Theological Seminary and a candidate for Anglican Studies at Bishop Kemper School for Ministry. She hopes of one day becoming an Episcopal priest. Clare comes from an interfaith family and found a spiritual home in the Episcopal Church when she was nine years old.

The Rev. David Kendrick (he/him) serves as the Rector at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Springfield, MO in the Diocese of West Missouri. He is married to Laura and they are really proud of their son, John, their daughter-in-law, Nancy, and two young grandsons.

The Rev. Collin Larimore (he/him) serves as Associate Rector at Grace Episcopal Church in Carthage, Missouri in the Diocese of West Missouri. Fr. Collin has a passion for the outdoors, travel, and food. A native of the Ozarks of southern Missouri, Fr. Collin was raised in the Episcopal Church, studied religion and conservation in undergraduate, and completed his seminary studies at Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas.

About our Guests:

Sarah Lagergren is wife to Blain Lagergren and proud mother to George, 8, and Freya, 5. She was born and raised in Kansas City, MO – daughter of Jeff and Connie Burr, and sister to Adriane (Burr) Arnold. She attended William Jewell College and was part of the Oxbridge Honors Program, graduating initially in 2005 with her degree in History, and a minor in Chemistry. After working for the State Department’s International Visitors Center here in KC briefly, and then as an analytical chemist at a generic pharmaceutical company, she decided to go back to William Jewell to obtain her bachelor’s degree in nursing in the accelerated program. In 2007, she was hired as a registered nurse at a local pediatric hospital and still is employed at the same institution. In 2013, she graduated from the University of Missouri with her master’s degree in nursing as an Acute Care Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and began to work as a pediatric cardiac advanced practice registered nurse (APRN). In 2019, she received her doctorate in nursing practice from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She continues to work as an APRN within inpatient pediatric cardiology and is the manager of the APRNs within this area. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family and friends cooking or eating great food, the outdoors, and going on travel adventures. She wishes she had more time for quiet reflection, meditation/yoga, and physical activity.
