Excuses, Excuses, Excuses…

…And excuses again. Let’s admit it, most of us have been there.

“I didn’t pick up the phone because I was at the gym…” No, I actually didn’t want to talk.

“Sorry, I’m late because my alarm didn’t ring.” In fact, I couldn’t pick my outfit for the longest time today.

“I don’t have enough money.” Well I do, I just want to spend it on another pair of shoes or another vacation this year.

“I’m afraid I don’t have time to fit dancing in my schedule…” No, I’m just afraid to embarrass myself and feel uncomfortable, so I’ll take my couch over dancing.

The reasons people give why they aren’t taking dance lessons are many. However, the majority of them are not actual reasons, but only excuses. At Access Ballroom, we are firm believers that you can achieve greatness when you put yourself up to it. You just have to get up and take action. Most people will spend so much time contemplating, putting false reasons into their head that the perfect circumstances have to appear before they can move forward. Here are some excuses we’ve heard with feasible solutions.

In fact, the time will never be right and you will never be “ready”, so the best time to start anything is now, the present moment. Moreover, procrastination is your worst enemy, as it doesn’t allow you to progress in any direction. We believe that you can make time for anything that’s important to you and that you truly want to do.

Solution:

As a solution, take a good look at your schedule. What are the time “eaters”? Maybe you spend an hour a day on social media or TV shows? Or you are hanging out around the people that don’t necessarily add value to your life? Perhaps, you play video games most of your free time? Think about it and you’ll find what you can cut down on and add something that will make you better as well as your quality of life. At Access Ballroom, we are super flexible and will personalize your Dance Package to fit your schedule.

Too Old/Too Young Excuses

You are never too old or too young to do anything, including dancing. The videos below will prove it to you!

Solutions:

To get inspired, take a look at Paddy and Nico’s Salsa performance below at Britain’s Got Talent 2014. How old do you think Paddy is? She was born in 1934! And absolutely killed it.

It’s also never too early to dance. Just look at these incredibly young Salsa dancers at the Ellen Show. Imagine what they will achieve the older they get if they continue dancing?

Financial Excuses

In most cases, it is not that people cannot afford dance lessons, it is that they prefer to prioritize other things over it. For example, eating out, going to concerts and shows, buying video games, buying new clothes, etc. Of course, it happens that some people simply cannot afford even a roof over their head. However, where there is a will, there is a way. In other words, there is always a solution.

Solutions:

Think about what you want the most. We assume that when you come with the desire to learn how to dance, you actually really want it. Therefore, think of what is more important for you and your growth. Is it learning how to dance or buying a bunch of new clothes you will only wear once. Is it becoming closer to your partner and bettering your relationship through dancing or buying another video game?

Another solution is increasing your income. Sounds simple, right? As Grant Cardone put it, “You don’t have a spending problem, you have an income problem.” His solution is to increase income instead of cutting down on spending and changing your lifestyle. Of course, it will require hard work, but it is an excellent way to grow and get what you want in life.

Inability to Dance a.k.a. “Two Left Feet” Excuses

We’ve heard so many of you say things like:

racoon two left feed dancing funny excuses“I have two left feet.”

“I can’t hear the beat.”

“My brain doesn’t talk to my body.”

“I can’t do two things at the same time.”

“I just can’t dance…”

And we don’t believe any of these. They are all excuses. In fact, everybody can dance, as it is a skill that can be learned. If you find it difficult, we blame the teacher. Our purpose as teachers or dance instructors is to make it easy for you to understand. At Access Ballroom, we find individual approach to each student based on their learning style when communicating and breaking down the dance steps.

Solutions:

Listen to the podcast below by Gil Bynoe, our Director and Dance Instructor, where he talks about how these problems can be solved.
