At the dawn of the social media era, Belle Gibson became a pioneering wellness influencer - telling the world how she beat cancer with an alternative diet. Her bestselling cookbook and online app provided her success, respect, and a connection to the cancer-battling influencer she admired the most. But a curious journalist with a sick wife began asking questions that even those closest to Belle began to wonder. Was the online star faking her cancer and fooling the world? Kaitlyn Dever stars in the Netflix hit series Apple Cider Vinegar . Inspired by true events, the dramatized story follows Belle’s journey from self-styled wellness thought leader to disgraced con artist. It also explores themes of hope and acceptance - and how far we’ll go to maintain it. In this episode of You Can't Make This Up, host Rebecca Lavoie interviews executive producer Samantha Strauss. That’s where today’s sponsor, Sumissura, comes in. Because after all, you’re anything but standard. ➡️➡️ Check out https://www.sumissura.com/en/ to dress the real you. A big thank you to Sumissura for sponsoring today’s episode. Body Dysmorphia. When people think about body dysmorphia, they usually picture someone standing in a mirror fixating on certain parts of their body or obsessing over their weight or even just not even fitting into societal standards. But rarely do people associate this with height. While many people tell us that our height is a gift, body dysmorphia, sometimes coined as height dysmorphia, is something that tall women struggle with because our height can distort the way we see ourselves. So today, we’re breaking down how body dysmorphia is ruining tall women's lives and how no one seems to give a f***. Tune in to the full episode for more on what exactly body dysmorphia looks like in tall women, what causes it, and how people are gaslighting us about it! ~~ALSO A DISCLAIMER: I am not saying that any of the people in this episode have body dysmorphia; I’m simply sharing examples of what COULD BE. Take it with a grain of salt; I don’t have the credentials to diagnose anyone :) Buy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacof fee.com/atallgirlspodcast Subscribe to A Tall Girl's Newsletter: https://atallgirlspodcast.beehiiv.com/subscribe Let's stay connected: https://beacons.ai/atallgirlspodcast Leave a review and let me know how tall you are: https://atallgirlspodcast.com/reviews…

1 Why Is Styling So Hard for Tall Women? | Tips to Elevate Your Style ft. Style Coach Christine Nelson 30:22
Today, we are joined by a special guest: Christine Nelson! Christine is a fellow tall woman whose mission is to help women dress with confidence. And as a tall girl herself, she is hoping to do that for the tall girl community too! As a tall woman, styling can be challenging beyond just finding clothes that fit. Proportions play a huge role—tops that should hit at the waist may land too high, dresses might feel too short, and pants are often not long enough. Even when clothing is the right length, the way it drapes on a taller frame can be different from how it was designed to look. Oversized pieces can overwhelm, while certain cuts that flatter average heights may look unbalanced on our bodies. Accessories, like belts and shoes, also impact the overall look differently, requiring more thought into how to create cohesion. And then there's the societal pressure—tall women are often told to "tone down" their height, leading some to avoid heels or statement pieces that draw attention. Styling as a tall woman isn’t just about putting together an outfit; it’s about navigating proportions, confidence, and the limited options available in mainstream fashion. And our guest Christine is here to provide some expert advice about how tall women can dress to impress and feel good in their own skin through fashion! 1 Are Tall Women ACTUALLY Insecure Or Are We Just ‘Playing the Victim’? | Why No One Takes Us Seriously 19:08
This episode is actually inspired by a few comments I’ve gotten on my socials over the past few weeks. If you don’t follow me on my socials (like how dare you lol jk jk), I typically post podcast clips and commentary style vids so essentially much of my content is more commentary style in regard to tall women in society and so forth. Meaning that I often talk about the struggles we face. And there are two particular comments that stood out to me. One was under a TikTok video of me basically discussing how tall women aren’t viewed as feminine and we try to overcompensate by hyper-feminizing ourselves and essentially acting in a way that just isn’t natural to us. This person specifically commented that petite women are more feminine end of story and that I can’t reason my way out of this AND I shouldn’t try to convince men who don’t like tall women to like them. And I’m like this video isn’t even directed towards men nor did I even mention anything about a man lol. Chill out bruv. In another post (I was discussing how we hyper-feminize ourselves because people call us/see us as masculine), someone commented with a picture of a fake credit card with “victim card” on top of it. And I’m like Oh?? Haha ok???? I’m noticing a pattern here: people tend to dismiss our struggles, experiences, and insecurities. Anyways, so this does raise the question: are tall women’s insecurities real? Why do people often dismiss them? I dive deeper into the answers in my podcast episode! 1 The Fashion Industry Is Failing Tall Women | How Larson Will Change the Tall Girl Fashion Game ft. Camryn Larson 27:48
Today, we are joined by a special guest, the founder and owner of a new tall girl brand called Larson, Camryn Larson! Larson is all about bringing what we’re calling “timeless trendy” (yes, we coined this term during the episode lol) pieces to the tall girl community. Think of those cute outfit inspo photos you scroll past on Pinterest—Larson is making those a reality but designed ⭐specifically for tall women⭐. Because let’s be real: the fashion industry is failing us. Whether it’s brands that don’t even bother to make taller options or those that try and fail miserably, time and time again, we’re left disappointed. Camryn felt this frustration firsthand and decided to do something about it. Inspired by her college capstone project, she turned her vision into reality so tall women no longer have to settle for ill-fitting clothes or miss out on looking chic. But Larson is about more than just clothes—it’s about creating a space where tall women feel seen, celebrated, and empowered to embrace their height without apologies. Don’t miss this episode as we dive into her journey, discuss why the fashion industry is falling short, and explore how Larson is rewriting the rules for tall fashion! A Tall Girl's Podcast

Today, well last night honestly, was a very sad day for many of us lol. TikTok officially went black. It was supposed to go black on Sunday January 19, 2025 (when I’m recording this) but it left the premises literally the night before lol. We thought we had time to download everything that night but nope we don’t. UPDATE: The app came back lol. The president-elect saved it. There are actually loads of problems with the app now though soooooo we’ll see how that goes ://// Anyways, onto today’s episode. Today we are talking about the masculine stereotype that tall women often face and how they try to overcompensate that by being hyperfeminine. Ok ok lol I know that was a lot to take in but I promise it’ll make more sense as we get more into the episode. This was actually inspired by a Reddit post by a fellow tall girl. She claims that people have jokingly called her a man. She’s tall, yes, but she also has an androgynous style, likes gaming and cars, and so forth. Though those are just part of who she is, she’s felt the need to overcompensate with femininity. Sounds like something that happens to most of us, or at least to me for sure. I’ve talked various times on this podcast about how tall women are often seen as masculine. Why? Because height = masculinity. The taller a person is, the more likely someone will see them as masculine. Nothing new here. However, not all of us want to be perceived that way right? Because that does affect not only the way people treat us but also the people who choose to be around us, the people we attract. So some of us want to be perceived as feminine and feel the need to display hyperfeminine characteristics and behaviors. What do these behaviors and characteristics look like in tall women? It’s officially been about a week since I had a little “menty b,” lol. I won’t explain too much because I’ll likely update you on my socials and newsletter . But I am okay-er now. Just trying to keep going. I have a few exciting things like starting my new part-time job and working with a new client and so forth. It’s kinda hard to complain though when there are fires in California, high congestion pricing in NYC, and people losing their income because TikTok is being banned. Speaking of which, yup, TikTok will likely be banned in a week. There was a hearing recently and TikTok basically said, we know we have to leave or sell to an American company and TikTok was like we’re just gonna leave. Soooooo it’s looking like they’re leaving the premises :////// So yeah! Make sure you follow me on Instagram and Pinterest until further notice lol. Alright, today we are talking about tall girls and heels. You’re probably like why are we talking about this??? Listen, this goes deeper than just what we wear. It causes deep-rooted insecurities of not just being judged for what we wear but also insecurities surrounding being tall. Let’s get into it. “You’re gonna be too tall.” “You’re already tall; you don’t need to be taller.” “Why do you even need to wear heels?” These are just some of the comments that tall women receive if they want to or choose to wear heels. But have you heard about the history of heels? They were actually meant for MEN. Yup, you read that correctly, heels were originally made for men. Tune in to the full episode for more on this and why people have issues with tall women wearing heels! 1 'How Much Should Tall Girls Eat?' | Busting Tall Girl Health Misconceptions ft. Registered Dietitian Denvyr 28:35
***Just a little trigger warning, we do talk a little bit about weight in this episode. There is a tiny instance where one’s weight is compared to someone else’s. If this is uncomfortable for you, DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE. Your peace is way more important. Today, we are joined by a very special guest; her name is Denvyr! She is a registered dietitian, former athlete, and certified tall girl! And while she works to help all women build their best bodies in the healthiest way possible for them, she also uses her knowledge to spread awareness about common misconceptions relating to the health and nutrition of tall women. Because let’s face it, we aren’t really educated on how to take care of our bodies. Or at least I wasn’t. As a former athlete, she struggled with body image, especially because she was taller than all of the other girls around her. Between comparing herself to her teammates and seeing content from smaller fitness influencers on social media, she really wanted to shrink herself and her body leading to an unhealthy relationship with food. It wasn’t until after college and after being an athlete that she realized that she is more than her weight and height and needs to treat her body with the care it deserves. And now she strives to help other tall women do the same. I will say with no bias that this was an extremely insightful episode. It has even helped me in a couple of ways regarding how I’m taking care of my tall body and I think it’ll be very helpful for any tall woman. Make sure you tune in! 1 You're Pretty, You're Just Not Tall and Skinny | The Truth About The Tall Girl Influencer Space 17:35
This episode is quite literally based on a video on TikTok. However, I can’t insert a video here lol so in summary a tall, curvy/plus-sized creator was discussing how the tall girl influencer space is a mess because people only hype up tall skinny/thin influencers. Meanwhile, they don’t do that for the tall plus-sized folks OR people often fetishize these tall curvy creators. But first, let’s introduce exactly what the tall girl influencer space is. It’s essentially a niche community of content creators on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube who represent and cater to tall women. They often share the joys, experiences, and struggles of being a tall girl as well as clothing tips/outfit inspo, dating, and how to navigate the world with confidence as a tall woman. Now, this space is very very niche, but we’re often misrepresented or overlooked in mainstream media. Hence why, tall girl influencers/creators try to portray what it’s truly like to be a tall woman. However, not all of their content is about being tall, but most of it is. Anyways, so what’s the deal with people only hyping up tall thin women? Are tall curvy/plus-sized women more likely to be criticized both online and offline? Tune in to the full episode for more! You’re probably like ‘girl this is a podcast about height???” Yeah, it is but it’ll make more sense as I go on. And just a quick disclaimer: I will be talking about weight in this episode. I will not be disclosing my weight; however, I will be mentioning numbers from an article relating to this as well as other people’s weights that they’ve made public online. If this is triggering for you, protect your peace and skip this episode. Now, if you’re curious about this, let’s talk! We’ve all heard growing up ‘Never ask someone how much they weigh.’ Because it’s rude right? But when it comes to tall women, it’s like this rule doesn’t apply. Not only are creepy strangers asking for our weight, but some tall women are voluntarily giving out this information. Why is this a thing? Are we normalizing this or feeding into some strange obsession with tall bodies? To find out more, tune into the full episode! Let’s face it, Pilates has been one of the BIGGEST TRENDS of 2024. And understandably so. Many people, both men and women, have been looking for ways to increase their strength and tone their bodies without putting so much stress on them that they feel very tired at the end of the day. And lowkey I’ve been there before lol. With the rise of the popularity of Pilates, especially with TikTok influencers, sometimes I question if Pilates is really worth it. Especially as a tall girl. Today I’m joined by certified tall girl Debi aka Tall Girl Pilates on Instagram . Debi is a Pilates and fitness instructor dedicated to helping tall women and women over 35 years old find wellness through fitness. She’s certified through Balanced Body and holds an NPCP certification, which is the only National Pilates Certification Program out there. This advanced certification requires renewal every two years through continuing education, meaning she’s always learning and growing—not just as an instructor, but as a person, too. As a tall girl, she’s struggled with keeping up in fitness. She found it difficult to do certain exercises (like squats) as fast as her peers and to use machines that don’t cater well to long limbs. However, she learned over time that exercising as a tall woman is going to look extremely different than it does for others and works to spread that message through her content. Remember the days when everyone wanted to become a model? I mean, it makes sense; everyone was so enamored by the glitz and glam of everything including travel opportunities, wearing pieces from your favorite famous designer, meeting influential people, doing cool photo and video shoots, building confidence, becoming famous, and so forth. But many people felt their dreams were “crushed” because they felt that they were “too short”. I can understand why they’d think that because when you see models, they’d have long, thin limbs and often look taller than their counterparts or the people around them. Not only that, but many agencies wanted to cast tall women. As tall women, we’re often told that we should model because of their height. Simple. Makes sense, right? WRONG. What if I told you it might actually be hard because you could be too tall? Yup. You can apparently be too tall to model :/ Why? I just love knowing that every single year, I release an episode on Thanksgiving. I hope you’re enjoying your Thanksgiving weekend, whether you're cooking, staying in, going out, etc. And with this weekend comes the start of officially going broke because, after today, we have Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, probably some of the biggest spending days of the year. Unfortunately, I won't be participating in the mayhem this year because of a $600 repair I had to pay for on my car, but life, right? Many people argue that the Black Friday deals are no longer hitting as they’ve gone from 60% - 80% off in the 2000s to 20% - 30% off nowadays. But there’s one place where we can see the first type of deals: fast fashion retailers. These retailers are known for bringing runway-inspired pieces to the consumer market, making fashion more affordable and accessible. And of course, one of the more popular ones we know of to this day is Shein. Shein is a global online fast fashion retailer based in China known for selling trendy clothing at very low prices. However, there have been various allegations about this brand involving labor exploitation, environmental harm, having harmful chemicals in their clothing, and so forth. Now that we know a little bit about Shein… Did you know that Shein has a tall section?? Well if you didn’t know, now you do. I stumbled across a bunch of home renovation videos on TikTok the other day and this app knows me so well that it showed me a video of a tall family customizing their own home. Like from scratch. In the video, they literally had a picture of them sitting in front of the wood structure of their home. Their home consisted of raised countertops, 8-foot doorways, 10-foot ceilings, etc. and this creator in particular documented her whole journey of creating her tall friendly home. And she’s not the only one. There was a whole slew of videos with tall people customizing and renovating their homes from raised countertops to higher cabinets to tall-friendly furniture. There were even tall friendly apartments with features that catered to tall people. But how much does this stuff cost? To raise your doorways, it can cost up to $1,000 per doorway. Raised countertops? Up to $3,000. Raise the height of your ceiling? Several THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. And we haven’t gotten to other specialized features like closets and tall friendly furniture. In this episode, we explore how expensive it can be to live and exist as a tall person. Home customizations. Clothing. Healthcare. Transportation. Food???? To learn more about this and a very controversial opinion that comes from this, tune in to the full episode! 6'5" Guy With The Tiny House: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j52w5A_ppcM Subscribe to A Tall Girl's Newsletter: https://atallgirlspodcast.beehiiv.com/subscribe Let's stay connected: https://beacons.ai/atallgirlspodcast Leave a review and let me know how tall you are: https://atallgirlspodcast.com/reviews…

This topic has been brought up in my DMs and my comments over the past few days. I did plan on speaking about this topic at a later time; however, because of the recent requests, I just took this as a sign to do this now. Just a few quick disclaimers that are bulleted: I identify as Black and I am mostly black genetically. While I am mixed, I am most in touch with my Black side so I do say I am Black. While I do face some of the struggles of being a Black woman, I do acknowledge that colorism exists. If you didn’t know, I am a light-skinned woman. I am light with light-colored eyes, so I am aware that there are times when I’m treated differently because of how I look. This episode will discuss slavery. If this is a sensitive topic for you, DO NOT tune in to this episode. Protect your peace babes. “Being tall and Black isn’t for the weak.” “People give so much hate to tall, dark-skinned girls.” These are some of the comments and messages I’ve received over the past few days. And now’s the time to address them. The way that people act towards us is largely due to the stereotypes given to both Black women AND tall women. What are these stereotypes? And how does it affect how people see tall, Black women? Tune in to the full episode to find out!
