Do Not Be Deceived Colossians 2:8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. NKJV See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. NASB Do not be lead astray by heresy, opinions, worldly advice, worldly traditions, man-made traditions and advice In this verse, Paul is warning the Colossians. He’s speaking against philosophies and human traditions. He’s not so much speaking against all philosophers and traditions, but those that come from human thinking and opinions and human works, those that come from the spiritual powers of the world. Those that are not rooted in Christ. Those that give no credit to God, mainly because they did not come from God.
