In this interview, I’m thrilled to sit down with renowned Speech Language Pathologist specializing in voice, Sherri Zelazny. We're diving headfirst into the fascinating world of vocal anatomy, and let me tell you, Sherri’s visual graphics make this one worth watching with your eyeballs on our new YouTube channel! We chat about the larynx and its key roles, and get an up-close look at vocal folds through stroboscopy – it's like a high-tech voyage into the voice. Because…do you actually know what your instrument looks like?

Our conversation gets even more exciting as we watch video footage of Deanna Gestrin's voice under both rigid and flexible scopes. It's like having VIP backstage passes to see the inner workings of vocal magic. We talk about why baseline scopes are the unsung heroes of vocal health and delve into how vocal injuries aren’t the end of the world – they're challenges we can overcome.

We also touch on the importance of teamwork in our field – it’s a group effort between speech-language pathologists, voice teachers, and laryngologists.. We explore all sorts of accessible tools and techniques that are game-changers in improving vocal fold coordination and function. And let’s not forget about those voice care insights! From semi-occluded vocal tract exercises (who knew straws could be so cool?) to the wonders of nebulizing and steaming, and the hows and whens of vocal rest – it’s like giving your voice a spa day.

We wrap up by emphasizing how treating your voice with the same dedication as an Olympic athlete treats their body is crucial. We’re talking regular vocal exercises, staying hydrated, getting enough rest, and understanding the effects of things like reflux on your vocal health. So, come join us on this incredible journey into professional voice care – it's like hanging out with friends who just happen to be experts in making your voice the best it can be!

We’ve split the interview into two parts, so make sure you check out both Tuesday and Thursday episodes this week, for all the goods!
