In Pastor Michael Whitlock's sermon on Nehemiah chapter one, he delves into the historical context of Ezra-Nehemiah, which unfolds after the Babylonians devastate Jerusalem and its temple, leading to the exile of its people. The book captures the return of Israelites to Jerusalem 50 years later and their efforts to rebuild their lives. Whitlock outlines the roles of three leaders: Zerubbabel, who leads the temple's reconstruction; Ezra, focusing on spiritual renewal and community building; and Nehemiah, leading the charge in rebuilding the city walls. Despite the initial success in each story, there is a common theme of disappointment and downheartedness. Whitlock emphasizes the need for heart change, asserting that physical changes, such as rebuilding, are insufficient without a transformed heart. The sermon then transitions to Nehemiah's concern for Jerusalem, his prayer, and the sermon's title, "A Change of Heart." Whitlock identifies three indications of a heart changed by Christ: a burden for what is broken, foundational prayer in one's life, and a God-sized dream in the heart. The sermon concludes with stories illustrating these principles, emphasizing that genuine heart change is essential for those who claim to follow Christ. Life Change Through Christ. This is the vision of Focus Church, led by Pastor Mike Santiago and based in Raleigh, NC with multiple locations through out the state.

🌊 Ducks in a Row - Week 3: The Battle Between Doing and Dwelling 🌊 Welcome to Week 3 of Ducks in a Row! Over the past weeks, we've explored the battles between the Past and the Promise and Chaos and Order. Today, Pastor Mike dives into the next critical struggle: The Battle Between Doing and Dwelling. In a world driven by algorithm-rooted affirmation and view-count validation, many of us have traded authenticity for curated perfection. But God doesn’t pursue the filtered, photoshopped version of you—He wants the real you. 🔑 Key Themes: Are we defining ourselves by what we do or what we’ve done? How Instagram culture fuels a gift-only perception of identity. Breaking free from guilt, shame, and performance-based validation. Learning to be loved without your gift—and discovering the purest version of love. 📖 Scripture Reference: John 4:1-18 – Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well, revealing the truth about identity, grace, and living water. 💡 Highlights: The pressure to perform vs. the call to abide in Christ. What does it mean to let go of striving and embrace God’s affection? How the gospel creates freedom from guilt and shame, allowing us to walk in true identity. The real version of you is not out there someday—it’s here, right now. Will you let Jesus introduce you to who He created you to be?…

In Week 2 of the “Ducks in a Row” series, titled “The Battle Between Order & Chaos,” Pastor Mike draws lessons from King Hezekiah’s story in 2 Kings 20. Facing the threat of death and national crisis, Hezekiah is instructed to “set your house in order,” reminding us that God works powerfully when our lives align with His priorities. Pastor Mike highlights three areas of order—re-evaluating our tomorrow, rewriting our history through prayer, and responding to God with genuine worship. Just as Hezekiah turned to God in desperation and was granted both extended life and renewed purpose, we too can experience divine breakthroughs when we prioritize, pray, and praise according to God’s design. In the first sermon of our new series “Ducks in a Row” titled “The Battle Between the Past & the Promise” we explore the tension between looking back at our past and stepping into God’s promises for our future. Using Numbers 11:4-14, we examine how the Israelites’ nostalgia for Egypt—the place of their slavery—blinded them to God’s present provision and future blessings. This message challenges us to stop living in the past, trust God’s current provision, and embrace our role as leaders in His plan. Watch now to learn how to align your life with God’s promises for 2025! #church #jesus #2023 #jesuschrist #focuschurch #church #2023 #raleigh #triangle —— Subscribe to the latest sermons. The power of provision reminds us that God is both our source and sustainer. Like Isaac in Genesis, who reaped abundantly because of God’s blessing, and Peter, who saw a miraculous coin meet his need, we serve a God who is faithful to provide in every season. Whether through the skills He’s given us, the work He’s called us to, or the unexpected miracles that defy logic, God is Jehovah Jireh—our Provider. As we align our motives with His purpose, steward His blessings wisely, and embrace the gifts He’s placed in our lives, we can trust that He will meet every need and equip us to live generously and impactfully for His glory. Where God guides, He provides—and He does so with love, abundance, and perfect timing.…

We measure life more in seasons than in seconds, and last week we explored the three distinct seasons we go through—Separation, Cultivation, and Irrigation. This week, we turn to Jesus’ parable of the weeds and wheat in Matthew 13, an agricultural metaphor revealing kingdom truths. The enemy doesn't attack the seed but the owner, devaluing the harvest by planting weeds to distract, drain, and delay. Yet, the integrity of God's seed remains unshaken. Harvest is not only a time of reaping but of refining, where God separates the wheat from the weeds, revealing the full value of what He’s planted in us. We are God's seeds; the enemy plants weeds; but God owns the field, and He knows the yield!…

In "The Lifecycle of a Seed," Pastor Mike begins the "The Speed of Seed" series by encouraging us through Galatians 6:9 not to grow weary in doing good, for a harvest will come if we persist. He reflects on how time feels fast in joy but drags in hardship, and how seasons of suffering, like Job's, often feel eternal. Job’s trials remind us of our own seasons of Separation, where God may detach us from past comforts to prepare us for new growth. In Cultivation, God works in hidden places, like a seed buried in the soil, reminding us that our darkest seasons are often where His greatest work takes root. In the final Season of Irrigation, Pastor Mike emphasizes that our tears and worship water the promise of new life, as God, the provider of “living water,” brings the harvest at just the right time. In "Miracles in Mass Quantities," Pastor Mike explores the powerful miracle of Jesus feeding the 5,000, revealing how God turns our scarcity into overflow. Emphasizing obedience, he notes that faith and following God’s direction lead to supernatural results. Organization, too, plays a role as God often brings larger blessings when we structure our lives around Him. Finally, the twelve leftover baskets show how surrendering what we have, even our brokenness, results in abundance. This miracle reminds us to trust God with what we have and to expect His abundant provision. Subscribe to the latest sermons. Pastor Nate Clarke's message "Living Ready" reminds us of the importance of using our God-given talents with purpose. Based on Matthew 25:14-30, we’re reminded that God is the Master, and we are His servants, called to steward His gifts well. As Spurgeon once said, “God will not ask what your church did—He will ask you what you did yourself.” The parable challenges us to move beyond hesitation, using even what feels small for God's kingdom. Let’s live ready, knowing one day we’ll give an account for how we invested what He entrusted to us. Subscribe to the latest sermons.
