The Birth of the Republican Party

January 1854 in Washington D.C. a senator from Illinois introduced a bill to congress. Slavery had become a hotly contested issue within the United States and this bill seeks to resolve the issue of free versus slave states. Little did the man who introduced the bill know that once passed this bill will lead to the downfall of a major political party, and the birth of a new one.
