The Qatargate scandal has shifted into high gear with the arrest of Jonatan Urich, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s close adviser, and Eli Feldstein, a former spokesperson for the prime minister. They are suspected of contact with a foreign agent, money laundering and fraud and breach of trust. Netanyahu, after he was questioned by police, posted a video claiming the investigation is another political witch hunt designed to topple him from power. The Security Cabinet has approved plans to pave a new bypass road that will dramatically relieve traffic congestion between Jerusalem and Maaleh Adumim and also strengthen security. Daniel Seidemann, an Israeli attorney specializing in the geopolitics of Jerusalem, said that enormous political pressure had been placed on Israel not to open the road. Over 350 million shekels has been allocated to build the road which will link the Palestinian villages of a-Zaim and al-Eizariya, thus diverting Arab vehicles from the main Highway 1 and checkpoints. Tens of thousands of Israelis have done hundreds of days of reserves since the war began, and they are still being called up. But reservists are protesting for the government to carry through with the law and conscript the tens of thousands of ultra orthodox yeshiva students into military service in order to share the burden. Artificial Intelligence is having a broad impact on research and development and this was a focus of a conference held in Israel this week called the Tel-Aviv Sparks Innovation Summit. One participant was Dr. Nissim Peretz, the CEO of Itay & Beyond, a company that synthesizes brain cells from urine samples to test psychiatric medications using AI. US federal funding cuts to the cybersecurity center that serves state and local government entities has raised concern about vulnerabilities in these decentralized systems.
