For centuries, members of the B’doul Bedouin tribe lived in the caves around the ancient city of Petra, Jordan. Then, in the 1980s, the government forced the tribe to move in the name of preserving the geological site for tourists. But if the residents are forced to leave, and if their heritage has been permanently changed, then what exactly is being preserved? ×On today's podcast, we discussed the issues surrounding the "pay on delivery" system of running a business and how it can be avoided. The brand doctor used his most recent business project - Reprovive as the case study for this episode. Why is "pay on delivery" bad for business, you may ask? Here are a few reasons why it can kill your business ultimately; 1. The pay on delivery system is like a virus, once you lay a foundation with it, it ia hard to break and you can get stuck. 2. There are huge cost implications attached to a failed delivery. The cost of time wasted and money when a customer fails to accept their order or changes location from the agreed delivery point. 3. Sometimes customers opt to pay cash to the riders and this exposes you to the risk of theft and unaccountability from dishonest riders. 4. Accepting pay on delivery ultimately sends out a signal that you are not totally trustworthy. Though this might not be true, it's a subtle message that is passed. Looking at all the outlined points above, you might be saying to yourself, but I am a new business, nobody knows me yet, they will never pay me upfront for my products or service. While it is true that people only buy from people they like, know and trust, it is possible to be a new business and garner that trust that will make people buy from you. Below are the points discussed on the podcast to make this happen; 1. It's all in the name - Make sure you get tour naming right. Avoid names longer than 15 characters and avoid the use of special characters like underscore and the likes. Use a name that depicts what you do easily. 2. Choose a colour scheme and be consistent with it. Ensure all your communication is in line with this scheme. It makes your brand memorable. 3. Be clear about your unique selling proposition. It helps you stand out in a noisy marketplace. 4. Communicate clearly the problem your business solves. Tell the customers consistently why they should buy from you and what your product or service will do for them. 5. Get testimonials from early adopters of your product or service and create a highlight for these testimonials on your page. These things build trust and help a new person coming in contact with your brand make the decision to patronize you. Reprovive was built online from scratch and in less than four months has been able to attract paying customers who not only keep coming back but also do not hesitate to pay upfront. On how this was made possible, the brand doctor once again stressed the importance of branding your business right, being the face of your brand and out rightly rejecting pay on delivery requests. Today on strike the anvil, we discussed how pay on delivery is killing your business and how you can work around it. . . My guest was Chinonso Anyaehie, www.branded.ng who recently launched another business which we used as the case study. www.reprovive.com . #Highlights People insist in pay on delivery from businesses they don't trust. The question then is how do you get customers to trust your brand? It's in the name, colour scheme, usp, niche and value offering. Try to use names that don't come across as spammy e.g names with special characters like underscore, names that are longer than 15 characters The challenges with pay on delivery can come from many things such as the dispatch guy going AWOL after collecting your money, the customer's number entering voicemail when the dispatch person gets there 😀😀, the customer rejecting the item etc. Proper branding helps you project your business as authentic. Ensure your bio is clear and concise, specifically highlighting how your business will benefit the customer. Focus on putting out more original content such as good product images and videos. Don't be a faceless brand, this goes a long way to make customers trust you. At least if you mess up, they can call you out 😂😂 It also helps to have client testimonials on your page. Create a highlight for it. If you are just starting out, you can get testimonials from friends and family who have tested the product. If you are desperate to make a sale, chances are you will not make the sale". There's more on this in the Gameplan book which is available for 5,000 only. email brandme@branded.ng…
