“We don't want Idaho to have a bad reputation. This is our home state. We love our home state. It's beautiful. We pride ourselves on our nature. We pride ourselves on our wildlife. And instead, we are continuing to do things that are… that are sickening.” - Ella Driever In 1995, wolves were reintroduced to central Idaho, and in 2003 a Boise High school called Timberline officially adopted a local wolf pack. Throughout the 2000, students went on wolf tracking trips and in their wolf packs range. But in 2021, Idaho's legislature passed Senate Bill 1211, 1211 allows Idaho hunters to obtain an unlimited number of wolf tags, and it also allows Idaho's Department of Fish and Game to use taxpayer dollars to pay private contractors to kill wolves. That means bounties on wolves, including on public lands. And in 2021, the Idaho Fish and Game Commission expanded the wolf hunting season and hunting and trapping methods. So it's not too surprising to learn that also in 2021, the Timberline pack disappeared. The students, the ones that cared about wolves, at least, were devastated. Last summer I went to D.C. with some of the Species Unite team for a wolf rally on Capitol Hill. While I was there, two young women gave a talk about what happened at Timberline in 2021. Their names are Ella Driver and Sneha Sharma. They both graduated from Timberline High School and were there when their wolf pack disappeared. Please, listen and share.…

"We have a creative life force that comes out in so many unique and beautiful ways. But in order to tap into it, I think we have to stop. I think we have to stop producing, consuming, doing, and just take a breath and take a moment to pause." Our society values productivity over anything else. And with that kind of culture, it can be hard to honor our bodies' need for rest. But resting and restoring our energy throughout the day will not only improve the quality of the work we do but the quality of the life we live, too. This week, Aine discusses creating intentional white space to tap into your higher self and invoking creative energy through deliberate rest. Listen in! "It really dawned on me that the best thing I can do for my kids is to be a happy, healthy mom. There's nothing on earth I can buy them that would be more important than them seeing their mom happy, healthy, confident, empowered." It’s not uncommon for moms to put their dreams and goals on hold for their families. But at a certain point, doing so may hurt you. By learning to put ourselves on the priority list, we’re becoming more fulfilled versions of ourselves and can show up in even more ways for the people we love. On this episode of Rock Your Joy, Aine is joined by Olympic bronze-medalist and founder of Strong Mom Strong Fam, Lauren Regula, to discuss the challenges she faced as she began her journey into motherhood, re-discovering her life-long passions and how she’s transitioning back into “Mom-mode” after the 2020 Olympics! (38:04) - Be you and stay curious Lauren Regula is the founder of Strong Mom Strong Fam, where she helps Moms "Calm The Chaos" within themselves and take ownership of their bodies and lives. Recently, she decided to step out of her comfort zone and train to make her third Olympic roster in softball. Now, Lauren is officially a 3x Olympian and Olympic Bronze Medalist! Even still, Lauren had plenty of hurdles to jump to get to where she is today. She spent 6 years in and out of depression after the birth of her third child. Through more hard work and strength than she knew was possible, she loved herself whole, gained back the confidence she had lost, and became the person she needed to be to make her dreams come true. She was able to make this happen just before her 40th birthday and with her family as the best support system - and cheering section - that she could ask for! "Ultimately our habits create our life. And so the invitation is actually to become curious and present and willing to take yourself off autopilot and check in: is this life I've created the one I really want, am I being who I want to be?" Creating a life that you’re excited about begins with your own actions. Sometimes, we fall into routines that don’t serve us, or once did and don’t anymore. That’s why it’s important to step back and reflect on your habits to ask if your day-to-day actions are helping cultivate the life you want. On this week’s edition of Rock Your Joy, Aine shares how moving to California took her out of autopilot, allowing her to examine her habits and think about new ones. Plus, she covers how exploring mind, body, and breath exercises has helped her better understand her goals. “We get into these habits of hustle culture and this drains our resources. And so it's not uncommon to get to the point where our brain says, 'Enough is enough. I actually can't manage this anymore.' When we become stressed and overworked, our bodies will begin to show signs that it’s time to slow down. Dr. Nicole Byers is a neuropsychologist and the CEO of Rocky Mountain Neurosciences. She uses her platform as a public speaker and host of The Bold Life Podcast to aid folks in understanding what their bodies are telling them and how to manage symptoms by finding their source. Change is never easy. It can cause immense discomfort and usually leaves us feeling stressed, confused, and drained. But change is a necessary part of life. It was through these sessions that she began to realize the powerful effects of coaching and decided to become a coach herself. During her doctoral studies at Wright University, she took a deep dive into the idea of motherhood. The program and her studies deepened her relationship with her daughters, as well as her sense of self. “One of the fundamental shifts to support finding and owning your purpose and your calling is to get still, and to start going in as opposed to seeking.” - Rha Goddess Early in the pandemic, Rha had a dream where she fought to stay afloat in a wild storm. Suddenly she heard a voice say, “Do not fight the waves. Let the current carry.” It’s a message each of us can benefit from, and not just in this year of massive change. Many of us have what Rha would call purpose anxiety: Who am I? What am I meant to do with my life? What if I go for it and it doesn’t work out? Rha Goddess, Founder and CEO of Move the Crowd , admits she came to her own purpose kicking and screaming. After a life-changing wake-up call, she chose soul coaching and authorship to help people find their purpose and work through three major conversations that often stand in the way. Through her most recent project nFormation, a membership-based technology platform for high-performing women of color, Rha has experienced how purpose can evolve and change over time, particularly when we analyze how our personal gifts align with the times in which we live. Rha Goddess is our guest on this week’s episode of Rock Your Joy where she discusses how the “great pause” has given us the gift of time, her book The Calling: Three Fundamental Shifts to Stay True, Get Paid and Do Good, and the evolution of purpose and its alignment with the times. Her work has been featured in Time Magazine, Ms Magazine, Variety, Essence, the Source, Redbook, Forbes, Fast Company and the Chicago Tribune, among others. As a sought-after speaker, Rha has led the conversation around a “whole self” approach to entrepreneurship as key to a more just, harmonious and sustainable economy and culture. As CEO of Move The Crowd , Rha is galvanizing a movement of 3 Million entrepreneurs dedicated to re-imagining “work” as a vehicle for creative expression, financial freedom and societal transformation. “We don't want them to feel constrained by the gender stereotypes that really do still permeate today's culture and a lot of ways and it starts at the very beginning, even before babies are born.” – Kristen Flather We live in a society that puts unreasonable expectations on girls starting before they are even born. For new babies and children, most clothing available is on a spectrum of pink. Kristen Flather’s daughter struggled with this issue. Unable to find clothing that spoke to her interests or her unique personality, Kristen had the idea to start her own children’s clothing company. As a former history teacher, Kristen took inspiration from the stories of strong women throughout history, and incorporated them into her clothing designs. She joined Aine for a discussion on how she was able to mesh two of her passions into a new business that has since become a family affair. Kristen also talks about how the pandemic has forced her family to slow down and appreciate time together. Kristen is a mom to four kids and believes strongly that they should grow up to be anything, like anything, and do anything -- and what they wear should reflect those aspirations. In addition to her own writing, Rea also helps aspiring writers realize their dreams through her company, Writeway. On this week’s episode of Rock Your Joy, Rea shares her journey from dreamer to writer. She also talks about her journey homeschooling her daughter. Now, as the CEO and Founder of Writeway™ , she teaches aspiring writers how to become published authors too. When she’s not promoting her novels or running her business, you can find her homeschooling her daughter, spending time with her husband, traveling, exercising, or plotting her next great adventure. She was boxed in by her fears, unable to realize her full potential. All that changed when she met a woman named Sami, fell in love, and chose to leave behind those narrow boundaries in favor of a fuller and more vibrant life. Brit’s first book, Worth It: Overcome Your Fears and Embrace the Life You Were Made For , launched in July of 2020. In Worth It , Brit tells her story to inspire all of us to overcome our own fears— the kinds of fears that keep us from evolving beyond the narratives that have been handed to us by others. “I always love this stretch right before fall because it's a quiet, open, luscious space for us to receive, and to create. But we have to create the space, give ourselves permission. Allow your mind and your spirit to wander and dream.” – Aine Rock Now is a time of great transition. There are the micro-transitions of everyday life – transitioning from work mode to parent mode, or from stressful situations back to a feeling of being grounded. It’s also a time of seasonal transition – warm and light to dark and cold, back to school, and transitioning back to work in person. Whatever type of transition you’re faced with, it’s important to take the time to plan and create rituals around them. Mindfully setting this intention to transition gives you a plan so that you’re not scrambling in the moment. This week on Rock Your Joy, Aine invites you to ask yourself, “What is my mission this season?” Get your journal out and get clear with yourself on your plans for graceful transitions. As a biracial woman, Monika McKenzie has had to navigate both worlds on her quest toward more soulful living. Monika began her yoga journey after experiencing severe anxiety. “I can't think of anywhere that we have more impact than in our own home. And I want to remind you of your influence and your agency. But first, I want you to get centered and clear on what's coming up for you.” – Aine Rock As our children get older, we tend to think that they’re not really listening to us. But even if they won’t admit it, our children crave our guidance. You have so much more influence than you think! While it can be helpful to check how other moms are handling things, know that there are no right answers and at the end of the day, you must do what is best for your family. This week on Rock Your Joy, Aine wants you to reclaim your power. The only way to do this however, is to go back to your breath, get clear on your feelings, and recognize that you don’t have all the answers. That’s ok. “Let 2020 be the gift. The year that we finally stepped into our purpose and power. Let this global pandemic have the most beautiful ripple effect, that five years down the road, you look back and say 2020 was the year I said enough. I'm ready to live in my purpose, in my light.” – Aine Rock This year has been a rollercoaster to put it mildly. “I thought to myself, maybe she's on to something. It brings me joy to see her so happy. And she is loving it. I said, let's try to figure it out. So, I quit my job. And a year later from the day I quit is the day we launched Coming Up Rosies.” – Paula Quinn After Rosie Quinn was diagnosed with alopecia at just 2 years old, her mother Paula wanted to do something to help her daughter feel better about her self-image. She took a design Rosie had made and printed it on a headscarf. Rosie was so delighted, she had the idea to start a charity giving head scarves to children experiencing alopecia and cancer. Now at 9 years old, Rosie is the Co-founder, along with her mom, of Coming Up Rosies. Both mother and daughter joined Aine for today’s discussion on how the two have found joy despite the challenges they have faced. Listen and get inspired! Paula Quinn is the Co-founder of Coming Up Rosies , a Chicago based non profit inspired by her daughter, Rosie's dream to help "kids who look like me and to make the bald kids smile." Rosie convinced Paula to leave her 10 year People Operations career at Google to provide the opportunity for bald children to create their own head scarf, neck scarf or superhero cape to wear with pride. Since 2016, Coming Up Rosies has donated over 1,600 Smile Kits to hospitals and charity organizations around the world. Each kit provides a child an outlet of creativity, and the ability to wear their masterpiece with a smile. Paula works best juggling many hats, so in addition to running Coming Up Rosies, she’s the Head of People at TechNexus Venture Collaborative, a Chicago based joint venture technology firm. Paula lives in Chicago, with her husband Larry, daughters Rosie and Caroline and their Bernadoodle, Enzo. In her free time, Paula enjoys spending time with her family, being a Legislative Liaison for the National Alopecia Foundation, cooking Italian dishes with her girls, running, impromptu dance parties, and doing jigsaw puzzles during the cold Chicago winters. “Choosing you. Literally creating time in your day that is only for you, that becomes your sacred time. I believe this can be life changing.” Overwhelm is the word of the year. After months of lockdown due to COVID-19, we’re witnessing a seismic, societal shift thanks to the efforts of the Black Lives Matter Movement. The amount of change that we are all collectively dealing with on such a rapid time frame is enough to stir anxiety in even the most centered or stoic among us. This is our body’s way of giving us clues and letting us know that it is time to slow down. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed or anxious, consider creating your own sacred morning routine. Even though the idea of waking up as early as 5 am may sound crazy to you, getting up a bit earlier, before your family, is a way for you to take some time to reflect and do the things that support and nourish you. Listen to the episode for tips on creating your own personal morning routine. Then, sign up at this link if you would like to take part in my 5 Day Rise Early Challenge. Every morning for five days you’ll get an email from me with a prompt and a reminder to wake up early to create time for yourself. “You'll hear people say, we just need to stay high vibe. We just need to have positive thoughts like the universe has us. We're infinitely supported. And although those things are true, if we're not acknowledging where the discomfort or the ‘dis ease’ or the blocks are and we just try to put a Band-Aid over it, we're actually creating resistance.” Andee Love Now more than ever, people recognize that it’s ok to not be ok all the time. For Andee Love, an Embodiment Facilitator and Coach, working through complicated emotions starts with getting back to the body. On today’s episode of Rock Your Joy, Andee explains the concept of “spiritual bypassing” in which people try so hard to stay positive that they don’t acknowledge painful emotions they may be experiencing. Right now, we are being asked to stay home to help lessen the spread of COVID-19. But using words like “lockdown” and “quarantine” are so dark and scary that they can take a toll on our mental health. Instead, let’s be intentional about the words we use to describe our current situation. We can choose to see this time as a privilege – an opportunity to stay at home for safety and wellness. “It’s going to be really easy in this climate to discount and put away some of our own feelings in the service of others. And women are especially inclined for this because a beautiful aspect of women is we do care; we're caring and thinking about the world, and our immediate home and family all at the same time.” – Dr. Gertrude Lyons During normal circumstances, it can be difficult to carve out time to practice self-care. Now, with everyone home under quarantine, women are caring for others round the clock with no time to focus on themselves. Our guest this week on Rock Your Joy, Dr. Gertrude Lyons , is here to help you give yourself permission to choose yourself. Dr. Lyons and Aine talk about the current child-centric dynamic that leaves the well-being of the mother absent from the equation. We’ve gotten through our first week on lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In that confined space with my family around 24/7, there were a few things that struck me. First, when our family set routines and (light) structure, things seemed to flow better. Second, existence is fragile, as it always has been. But this virus has shifted us into an awakening from our complacency. Everything you’ve ever done has led you to this moment. In times of challenge and uncertainty, what systems can you set up to achieve a sense of normalcy and flow? That’s what we’re talking about on today’s episode. There has never been a greater time for radical honesty with our families and ourselves. Welcome to the Rock Your Joy Podcast! My name is Aine Rock and I’ll be your host on this journey. I’ve long had the desire to share the stories of women who are finding and celebrating their joy, and to help women calm the overwhelm in their lives. We’re living in scary, uncertain times. Now, more than ever, it’s important to find moments of levity and set up routines to cultivate more joy. That’s what we’ll do on this podcast! Join me every other week as we talk through our challenges and find unique ways to shift our mindset. For our first episode, we’re discussing the current Covid-19 pandemic and how it has brought a sense of anxiety and uncertainty to our lives. I’ll talk you through some ideas to weather this storm – physically, mentally, and spiritually. Get ready to Rock Your Joy!
