"The basic premise of the event is that hunters hunt rattlesnakes from the surrounding environment all across West Texas, and bring them into the roundup for the weekend. And during the roundup, these snakes are kept in a pit and then, one by one, beheaded and skinned in front of in front of audiences." - Elizabeth MeLampy Elizabeth MeLampy is a lawyer dedicated to animal rights and protection, and her passion for this work shines through in her latest book, Forget the Camel, the Madcap World of Animal Festivals and What They Say About Being Human . To research the book, Elizabeth traveled across the country, immersing herself in a wide range of animal festivals — from the Iditarod dog sled race to the rattlesnake roundup in Sweetwater, Texas. Elizabeth examines these festivals as revealing microcosms of our broader relationship with animals. Whether it's rattlesnake hunts, frog-jumping contests, ostrich races, or groundhog celebrations, these events reflect the ways humans use animals to express cultural identity, community pride, and historical traditions. Yet beneath the pageantry and excitement lies a deeper question: Is our fascination with these spectacles worth the toll it takes on the animals involved? With compassion and insight, Elizabeth invites readers to consider whether there’s a more ethical and empathetic way to honor our stories — one that respects both animals and the traditions they inspire. Please listen, share and read, Forget the Camel. It will be released on April 8th, 2025. https://apollopublishers.com/index.php/forget-the-camel/…

We all want healthy Godly relationships, but the truth is, without first establishing the most important relationships the others will be challenging. If we can learn what it means to be be in relationship with God, and what that means for our relationships with ourself, THEN the rest of our relationships can fall into place. If you’re feeling like you’re walking through an identity crisis, if you’re worried that Jesus doesn’t see you, or know you.. this sermon is for you.…

Every single one of us is in a relationship. Whether thats friends, family, a boss, our relationship with God or even learning what it means to be in a relationship with ourself. Relationships are the foundation of everyday connection and we all want our lives to be filled with healthy, Godly relationships. As we dive deep into our series, we tackle the overarching concept that when relationships aren’t healthy, they have the potential to cause terrible damage, and thats why we need Jesus, at the centre of all of them.…
As we close our series on freedom we have found ourselves leaning more towards how to stay in step with the Spirit. We recognize that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So we have to lean in and grow in spiritual disciplines if we want to be spiritually growing… the only question that remains is… HOW?! How do we take steps, big and small towards fostering growth with Jesus. Ps. Lukas gives us both baby steps and big challenges to fight the cultural peer pressure to fold in our faith and gives us practical steps to grow in our faith.…

To walk in freedom means to walk with and be consistently filled with the Holy Spirit. So let’s get right into it.. how do we practically live and walk with the Holy Spirit? How do we cultivate a relationship with Jesus? At the end of the day, we can try and use all the spiritual hacks, quick fixes, easy devo plans, but the truth is we are called to steward our walk but enjoying the spiritual disciplines. In this sermon Ps. Lukas breaks down the spiritual disciplines and how to shift your perspective from “having to” do them, to feeling free to delight in them.…

In the last three weeks we have talked that God wants us to have freedom from the past wounds, current battles, and from the enemies attack. Yet we know, even though we can experience freedom from many aspects of our life, living daily in freedom takes the right posture and right practices. Freedom isin’t a one time experience but the beautiful journey of sanctification and it takes the proper posture and preparation to walk in freedom with Jesus.…

When it comes to freedom the question we all have is, If I am saved and belong to Jesus, why do I still struggle with sin? The truth is, we all struggle, but we can have victory over our flesh. We will never live in freedom over sin, if we do not walk and choose a mindset that comes from the Spirit. Paul tells us, we must consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to Christ, but he never said there wouldn't be a battle. If we can put our mindset on Christ, and walk in the Spirit we will find ourselves walking out daily victory not daily battles.…

In week one of our sermon series on freedom, Ps. Lukas helps us understand despite being saved and made new in Christ we are still learning to be set free in our body, mind and soul. Even the apostle Paul struggled in his battle with his earthly flesh but if we want to fully live in the freedom and life that Jesus has for us, we need to learn and fight for our freedom in Christ and it all starts with healing from our past, and pressing on towards what is ahead.…
It’s Christmas Sunday and as we wrap up our series on advent we conclude our series talking about the most powerful aspect of any christians life, the love of Christ. It’s hard to fully understand and grasp just how incredible the love of God is. The Christmas story is almost lost on us, and we’ve heard it so many times we almost forget the truth, that God himself came in the form of a baby to be with us, knowing full well he would not just be with us, but also give His life for us. If we fully grasped this story, I think our lives would look radically different, not just at Christmas but for our entire lives.…
"I got joy joy joy joy down in my heart… down in my heart… down in my heart…” Come on, we’ve all sang it, we’ve all heard it, the question is, do I? Do we? It seems as though our weary world struggles to rejoice in the time and day we live in. The beauty of Christmas is that upon Jesus’ arrival we now all have a reason to sing, a reason to rejoice, The messiah has come! We should be rejoice! We truly believe we have a reason to be grateful, and in this sermon Ps. Lukas wants to give you a few thoughts on how to get your joy back.…
Why is peace SO hard to have? Are we living in some sort of continual paradox? Striving so hard to find simplicity. Pushing through the chaos to find peace? Why does it feel like as soon as we have it leaves? The reality is, if our peace is predicated on our ability, our power, our control, peace will always be hard to grasp. The Prince of Peace comes to us, and gives us a way to have peace and maintain peace no matter our situation. This Christmas season, we are praying that we would be people with an abundance of peace because we know whom has it and can give it to us.…
Every year Christmas comes and every year our emotions go on a massive roller coaster. Excited for the season but overwhelmed with the to-do list, ready for joy and laughter but bogged down with perfection. Trying to strike the balance between enjoying the Christmas season and the chaos of materialism and busyness. The truth is, God sent his son to be with us, Jesus came into a time that was heavy, scary, chaotic and messy and thats why we can always have hope, joy, love and faith. Our world may look heavy, weighed down and weary, but we can always rejoice, because Jesus has come, he has entered into the mess with us.…

1 Suffering & Love - From bitterness to forgiveness || Pastor Lukas Bonnett || November 10, 2024 42:41
At some point, we can no longer let our suffering define us, or dictate our future. It’s not easy or simple, and it takes a lot of leaning into the Holy Spirit. Yet the truth still remains, our pain can have purpose, we can grow and learn from our suffering. At the end of the day, we can have hope again, but it may take something on our part, something we have received and something God calls us to freely give. In this message Ps. Lukas shares how healing happens, when we stop worrying about revenge and justice, and start offering forgiveness and love.…

Every one of us will walk through hardship, and even though grief and pain has a mind of its own, by God’s grace we can walk a righteous path amidst the suffering and see God move us from trial to triumph. God is the author of life and gets to finish every single person’s story, we must trust him and watch God move in our pain and learn to truly suffer well in His eyes, so we can leave the door open for blessing and restoration.…

We kickoff our series on suffering tackling the hardest most asked question on the topic, “why does God allow suffering in the world?” Ps. Lukas tackles this question both theologically and philosophically helping us see that as we look at every worldview the only one with an answer that brings comfort, healing, hope and restoration is the Christian worldview. The truth is this, God has a master plan and although suffering is a reality for all of us, God doesn’t leave us to suffer alone, where there is suffering, you will find His love.…

It’s Baptism Sunday! There is nothing better than the good news of Jesus, reaching, healing and bringing salvation to those who are desperate for a real tangible encounter from Jesus.
What does it mean to be radically generous? Is it purely financial? Is it giving beyond our means? In this sermon Ps. Lukas breaks down a well-known verse that is just as much about loyalty to the kingdom as it is about where your money goes. In this message you will also hear a heartfelt update on the growth of our church, the vision of where we are headed and how we can all be radically generous laying down our preferences and focusing on our purpose and vision of reaching the lost and creating space not just for who is in our community, but who isn’t.…

The Church was never meant to be something to just come and consume. WE are the church; WE are the body of Christ. A homecoming means every person, and every part of the body plays its part, but our part isn’t bigger than what we are a part of. In this sermon Ps. Lukas challenges us to become contributors and champions to God’s mission and God’s church, because the vision He has for us will take every one of us.…
A strong reality that many Christians don’t realize is you can be saved and yet not free. God can redeem your soul and yet your mind and body can still be slaves. Ps. Lukas breaks down what it looks like to trust God and experience freedom from the past, the flesh and the enemy. WE can live FREE with a future... or we can live as slaves to the past.…

Psalm 119 Known as one of the greatest Psalms ever written, we are taking the entire summer to unpack each line of the longest most intriguing pieces of scripture in our bible. This psalm has themes of joy, purity, holiness, anger, disappointment and trusting in God. More than anything else, this psalm describes the absolute necessity for the believer to live a life clinging to the word and law of the Lord. Life is a journey and without God and without the scripture’s life becomes complicated, challenging and the psalmist helps us see why we need God and the law more than ever before.…
