If you’ve listened to this podcast for a while or worked with me in any capacity, you know that burnout is one of my big topics. I love helping others heal and using my personal experience as a springboard for a greater understanding of how this affects so many of us.

You might not know, though, that I have a background in science and I love to nerd out on the WHY behind our physical reactions to stress and conditioning.

So I’m super excited to be talking with Ellyn Schinke, a self-described recovering perfectionist and people-pleaser, as well as a burnout coach, corporate wellness consultant, and former research scientist. She’s also a 6/2 Emotional Projector and a Taurus sun / Virgo moon / Cancer rising!

In this episode, Ellyn and I are looking at burnout and stress management from a scientific standpoint. We’re deconstructing my functional burnout experience, and learning why it can take years — not just weeks! — to fully recover.

We’re also getting into:

  • the four types of burnout: physical, overwhelm, emotional, and boredom; and how you can be going through multiple types of burnout
  • how burnout can differ from depression and anxiety, both clinically and within your body and mind
  • practical ways to navigate burnout when it happens and Ellyn’s recommendations for sustainable systems, self-care, and mindset
  • how to catch ourselves before we get deep into burnout — and what to do when the negative starts to become our normal setting
