In 1981, Gail Aldwin decided to travel on a double-decker bus from London to Kathmandu. Her overland trip took her across some of the most stunning scenery in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Fraught with challenges, Gail recounts tales of smuggling, breaking cultural sensitivities, and the heavy hand of the law. She also discusses how travel has changed over the last 40 years and shaped her life including her work as a writer.

This week I’m thrilled to be joined by Gail for the fourth episode of my Extreme Holidays Podcast.

Gail is an award-winning writer and a former university lecturer who has lived and worked in Australia, Papua New Guinea, Uganda and Spain. As well as novels, short fiction and poetry, she has co-written short plays and comedy sketches with 3-She, a collaborative group of three women writers. When she’s not gallivanting around at festivals or book launches, she at home in Dorset. https://gailaldwin.com
