Percussionist, Tabla Player, Freelancer, Author, and College Professor Shawn Mativetsky stops by to talk about his recent PASIC 2023 presentation on playing tabla with effects pedals (03:10), his percussion activities and responsibilities in Montreal and at McGill University (CA), teaching tabla ensemble, his book Rudimentaal , and his regular ensemble work (18:35), growing up in Montreal and his musical background (36:35), his years as a student at McGill, his first interactions with tabla, the physical and practical issues of playing the instrument, and learning how to be a student learning tabla from a master (43:30), and finishing with the Random Ass Questions, with discussions of the tabla in western performance practice, continuing the tradition of the instrument, great movies, and important albums (01:12:00).
