Manage episode 352107495 series 3422462
Jeff welcomes Dr. Michael Halasy to the show to discuss employee burnout. Dr. Halasy is an assistant professor of healthcare administration at the Mayo Clinic and an adjunct professor at A.T. Still University. He has experience in spine surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurology, and emergency medicine. Dr. Halasy talks about how business leaders can support their employees and themselves during times of stress. He also discusses how many companies are investing in mental health and well being.
In the past few years, there has been an increasing focus on employee burnout and its effects on organizations. However, many employers focus on individual level interventions that remediate symptoms rather than resolve the causes of employee burnout.
Dr. Halasy is a researcher and practitioner at the Mayo Clinic who has studied employee burnout for many years. He shares his insights on the research around employee burnout and its causes, as well as practical ways to address it.
In this conversation, Dr. Halasy discusses how he became interested in the topic of burnout after experiencing some of the symptoms himself. He describes burnout as a state of emotional exhaustion that can lead to a loss of empathy and other negative consequences. He advises leaders to be aware of the signs of burnout in themselves and their employees in order to take steps to prevent or mitigate its effects.
Employee burnout is a major problem, especially among millennials, that can have detrimental effects on both individuals and organizations. To address this problem, employers need to focus on resolving the causes of burnout, rather than simply remedying symptoms. Mike's research and experience at the Mayo Clinic can help employers take practical steps to address employee burnout in their organizations.
